The Cult of Shuithri, who is sometimes referred to as the Mother of Skin and Sinew, say that she is a great deity deep in the earth. They believe that all of life came from Shuithri, and that she loves each and every one of her loyal followers. It is said amongst the cult that one day, Shuithri will reveal herself to the world and destroy all the heretics that defy her, and embrace her loyal subjects into her loving embrace, combining their flesh with her, in a way to become immortal with her.
Divine Origins
The cult says that Shuithri has always existed, born of her own cosmic will. She would take the guise of a planet to grow herself, and from this her flesh would morph and change as it would split off and produce life. Fast forward years of evolution, and eventually it is said the first followers were to be found in the Deadlands, among the rabble and downtrodden peasantry that had been left to beg in their lifeless grey streets. They would hear a call in their dank alleys and following this call, it is said an artifact of Shuithri would reveal to them the truth of the world. While they preached their message, they were foolishly called insane and demented by the naïve and nonsensical nonbelievers, and so they were forced to flee as the townsfolk mounted a witch-hunt. Escaping into the unknown wilderness, the cult would begin to form, and to this day remains an ever present danger to those traveling, lest they be sacrificed in fell rituals or turned into flesh warped monsters.
Tenets of Faith
- The Flesh is Fluid! Those truly faithful will be blessed with new forms that Shuithri finds beautiful, embrace these forms for they are a sign of her unending love
- Oppose those that would seek to destroy the faith of Shuithri, for they are hateful beings that despise the unending love of Shuithri
- Keep to the shadows, for the works of tyrants and religious oppressors are vast and near limitless, topple their works from the shadows
- Give sacrifice to Shuithri, for we must show just how much we love her. Give offerings of blood and the flesh of her enemies, or even oneself by changing ones flesh to be more beautiful for her
- Never burn a corpse of the faithful when they die, if there is no room for the corpse, melt it down and give the fluid to the world, for Shuithri loves the taste and will love you for providing it.
Worship
Worship typically involves group prayer, and human sacrifice. Sometimes cultists form of a circle and take turns mutilating their flesh and drawing blood to show their devotion. They also try to use dark magic to enact rituals to help them destroy those who hate Shuithri's love or summon her loyal beasts, that are but a part of her flesh that split form her body.
Priesthood
Those that join the cult are usually mad and insane. Sadly, this means the downtrodden and those at the lowest points of their lives are common prey for the cult. However, another large percentage of cult members are those who are said to: "have suffered a terrible vision that bestowed upon them a crumb of cosmic truth about the world and so much more."
Whatever the case, the cult has a High Priestess known also as "The Bearer of Her Love". Under her are many different priests and priestesses that refer to themselves as "The Flesh Lords/Ladys." They are skilled in infiltration and ambush tactics, as well as being able to rouse the fervor of their fellow cultists. Under them are the rest of the cultist rabble.
Not technically participating in the rank structure are the Sinew Scupltors, who have mastered the eldritch art of morphing and changing flesh into nightmarish forms. They use this on corpses and, grimly, captured victims. They even morph their own flesh to experience the pleasures of Shuithri's loving embrace and admiration. These flesh abominations make excellent assets in toppling the societies of those who are not willing to believe.
Political Influence & Intrigue
despite the best efforts of The Church of the Light, this cult is ancient and persistent, with the first recorded instance of the cult being documented in the year 4135. This cult has grew out of the deadlands, and started to slowly but surely infiltrate the wider world. With their goal of overthrowing society, they pretty much stand opposed to all other factions in the world. however despite being one cult against the world, they are incredibly skilled in remaining hidden, and it is said that it can take generations before a cult can be found out in a city.
