Biological Traits

Racclings are a strange but fairly common race of humanoid creature resembling raccoons. Racclings are small, but what they lack in size they make up for their craftiness. They have very keen senses of smell and the ability to see in the dark, which is helpful since they tend to live in dark places. There are 3 known subspecies of Raccling:
  • Lotorite: Lotorite Racclings are one of the more common types, and they are known for their great appetite. They evolved to be able to eat just about anything and not get sick, and as such are highly resistant to poison. This does come at the cost of a rather large appetite, and as such can get into trouble when trying new foods or taking too much. When in trouble, they are able to curl into a ball and roll away, or use their strong grip normally used to catch food to climb with ease.
  • Larcenyx: Larcenyx are a type of Raccling more acclimated to city life and as such prefer alleyways. They have been known to have "sticky paws", in that they like to gather extremly rare and shiny objects

Genetics and Reproduction

Racclings reproduce sexually, with gestation taking about 4 months

Growth Rate & Stages

Racclings reach adulthood at about 8 years of age

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Similar to a raccoon, they have a sort of "mask" around their eyes, and of course share most of their facial traits with raccoons.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Racclings are able to see in the dark, especially shiny things.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Raccling naming conventions usually draw upon simple names that describe their personalities or interests. Examples include: Spear, Jinx, Fuse, Rocket, Stammer, Slink, Bobble, Scrounge, or Hustle.

Gender Ideals

Racclings don't tend to show any special prestiege to one gender over the other.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Raccling tongue is known as Raccish, and is a language that some have said sounds like a sort of chirping whistle, as well as growls and hisses.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

In truth, Racclings seem to simply adopt the culture of the local area they live in. However, it has been noted that no matter the location, Racclings have a very strong inkling to being family oriented and focusing on their "group" rather than outsiders. This can make them appear standoffish as they tend to stay within their own communities, but its just that they simply value family greatly.

History

In truth, no one is entirely sure how the Raccling exactly came to be. They had to have been one of the earliest races to manifest itself given how they've shown up all across the world. In truth the Racclings have never truly recorded their history, and so are also unsure of their origins. A common tale suggests that they were the result of a curse, and that after they were caught stealing from a Wiseman they were cursed to look like a thief. However this is more folktale than based in any substantial evidence. Regardless, the Raccling inhabit most cities across the world in some form, either as business owners or common thieves, or simply living their lives.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Due to being similar to Raccoons, there is an unfortunate stereotype that Racclings have "sticky fingers" and are criminals, spies, and thieves. While yes a  sizeable amount of Racclings utilize their skills in breaking the law, like any stereotype its an exaggeration. Those that get to know Racclings in person will find that they are brave, willing to fight when forced to, and can be some of the most loyal friends one can have.
