Ogres

Gluttons of flesh

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ogres have a humanoid form

Biological Traits

The first thing one would notice when seeing an ogre is how big they are, for a fully grown Ogre Bull (the name given to adult ogres) stands almost twice as tall as a man, and almost half as wide at the gut. They sport a lumpen, heavy-set frame that is swathed in great rolls of blubber to act as both insulation and a crude form of natural armor on top of their massive well-muscled frame and huge limbs. Armpits give off vile smell of sweat. It should be noted that while they appear fat it would be unwise to assume they are weak, for they can tear a man in half with relative ease.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ogres reproduce the same way humans do, however it seems that many tribes have taken to inbreeding, and thus some of the ogres observed look deformed, more then usual anyway. The gestation period is unknown, but theorized to be close to a humans gestation period

Growth Rate & Stages

Growth happens around the same rate as humans, however ogres live slightly longer

Ecology and Habitats

While ogres can live anywhere, they seem to favor tall mountains, particularly ones that feature heavy snow fall

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ogres, disgustingly, will eat everything in their path. This, rather horrifyingly, can include any traveler or mortal that gets in their way.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Jutting jaws and thick bony foreheads most are bald but all sport facial hair to catch the many chunks of meat that fly out their mouth when they eat, and their hair is all very greasy. Most hairstyles are topknots, that sit atop their nasty looking heads. They also sport rows of yellowish teeth that chomp, chew, and tear.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Many are scattered aroudn the world, living in the highest mountains possible. However due to their popularity as mercenaries, they can be seen wandering the world in groups or by themselves as mercenaries.

Average Intelligence

Ogres are notoriously dim witted. Those conversing with ogres will find with they typically exhibit two expressions: glum intimidation and a sinister grin, which is much worse. There are exceptions of course but many Ogres find grim humor and scary demeanor to work well for them. Those who live as mercenaries are known to be rather bright conversationalists.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Ogres possess sensory capabilities similar to a human

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Ogre names are fairly simple and contain a lot of larger sounds. G's and k's are very common, as are other more guttural sounds. Surnames tend to revolve around food or appearance as well, names like 'Gutsman', 'Maneater' and 'Goldtooth'.

Major Organizations

Many Ogres are apart of Marauder Tribes, which are large collection of ogres who work together to get meat and fight for the sheer fun of it. They seem to favor fighting the feral orcs for they seem to like how obsessed these orcs are with fighting.

Beauty Ideals

They have no need, for the feast is all they hear

Gender Ideals

unkown, however ogre females are not seen outside of the camps much

Average Technological Level

Crude is an understatement. Many do battle with serrated un kept blades, axes, and hammers, and some even use cannons as makeshift rifles. They have however been known to ride on large animals like dire wolves so they have at least mastered animal taming.

Common Dress Code

Many wear metal gut armor and occasionally sport armor for their shoulders. Facial hair seems to be almost a requirement as it any extra hair helps keep the ogres warm in cold climates and can catch bits of food that fall out of their gaping maws.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Might makes right is an understatment. Everything an ogre does is violence and they will cosntantly display this fact through intimidation and casual violence whenever they can. They throw out the weak children that are born to only leave the strong. A leader of a tribe known as a Tyrant will only inherit the position if he kills the previous Tyrant.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Most of these marauder tribes seem to worship a being referred to as, the Maw. He is the god of the feast, and constantly requires a sacrifice of meat and flesh, driving the ogres to fight to attain more meat and thus more power from their twisted god. He also drives them to never truly be satisfied, though they can come close in certain circumstances. It is said that the Maw resides in a different realm just similar enough to are own that if an ogre seeksĀ  him out, they may stumble upon it by accident. Here it is said that Ogres will go through trials to meet their god, before they appear before him. Either they will be found wanting and be eaten, or granted a divine boon: the ability to feel almost full. Meaning that these ogres who come back may eat less food, and this is seen as a great sign of strength and endurance.

Common Taboos

Refusing food, for any ogre who refuses meat is not a proper ogre.

History

Ogres have long since been on this planet, far longer then many give them create for. Long ago, some say even during the reign of the Ishtar Empire, terrible arcane experiments would be preformed on slaves, and the rejects be left out to die in the mountains. These rejects did not die in the mountains, but instead persisted, feeding off of whatever measly things they could find. However, they would ever remain hungry. So many of these rejects would begin crying out their hunger that eventually, something happened. Suddenly a great fire tore through the sky of the mountains near the ruins of the Ishtar empire, and it is said the sky would darken for a breif moment across the world as before them spawned a being of fire and flesh. This was what the Ogres would simply refer to as "the Maw", and is the god of the Ogres. It would provide sustenance to the ogres in return for eternal worship, though it also makes them hunger, so that they may never truly be satisfied. With their new god, the Maw remade the Ogres into an image more pleasing to him, and would spread them across the world to simply fight and eat. So it has been that the Ogres have spread across the world, and to this day remain an ever problem of many kingdoms and dynasty. The earliest recording of Ogres known to the world are accounts of raids against Catai near the first discovery of the Jade Throne.

Common Myths and Legends

Ogres hold the belief that one day, the Maw will remanifest into this world and consume the world, and only then will the hunger of the Ogres be forever sated.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ogres are an interesting lot. While they do mostly rampage around and kill and eat most of anything they come across, they also make for good mercenaries as many ogres have realized that if they can do jobs for the other races, they can get a essentially limitless supply of constant food, while also getting a good fight in as well. So while many find ogres freighting or detestable, many more look to ogres as their first choice in mercenary.
