Besides their keen sense of smell and darkvision, Nezumi also possess a strong resilience against disease and poison, and also sport clawed hands that can easily be used to defend themselves

Nezumi reproduce sexually through heat cycles, and are capable of having a lot of children very quickly

Nezumi reach adulthood at around 15 years, and at around 50 years they are considered elders for most Nezumi live short and violent lives

Most Nezumi prefer to live in tribes either in the dirtier parts of cities or out in the wilds, but can live anywhere they want

Nezumi possess the ability to see in the dark up to a certain distance. They also possess a very keen sense of smell, being able to use it track or find items

Naming Traditions

A nezumi name consits of three to five syllables, seperated by an apostrophe (which represnes a pause in some dialects, a clicking sound in others), and ending with the name of the individuals clan, such as check, tch, tck, tek, tuk, or uk. Sometimes the syllable oh- is added to the beggining of a name to designate an individual or great age and wisdom. For example, "Ohchi'chek" is a respected elder of the check, or "Teachers" tribe. To show that a nezumi has gained great honor in his tribe, the syllable ti- is added before the name of the tribe, as in "Rik'tik'tichek has distinquished himself in the Teachers tribe." Only occasionaly do ratlings adopt nicknames, such as "Longsnout." Nicknames are most common amount ratlings who work closely with humans, since humans often have trouble pronouncing ratling names.

Nezumi speak the language of the place they stay near towards, and also Nezuki, a chittering combination of barks, squeaks, and clicks

Culture and Cultural Heritage

While most nezumi adopt the culture of the place they are born towards, family si seen as the strongest bound nezumi share, and if one family member were to be harmed, it si quite common for their family's members to come in and help. Nezumi also typically believe in ones Ki over gods, believing the Ki of living beings shapes the universe rather then gods, for the world is an ever shifting thing. This does not mean they deny the existence of gods, rather they believe that Ki has a greater impact on reality than some far off deity

History

The History of nezumi is unfortunately not well known, as most of their history was lost on the formation of the Weeping Lands. What is known is when the Weeping Lands came to be, the nezumi were forced to migrate to Kantō to escape the wrath of Zankoku and his oni. Since then they have taken to living among the mortals of Kantō, and even some migrating to Catai in search of wealth and fortune

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While many see nezumi as thieves or other misfortunates, in truth they are actually just survivalists at nature, and scavenge not for wealth (usually) but to survive and feed their families. Nezumi can also be seen as very wise thanks to their long life span. Many other races refer to nezumi as "ratlings" as a nickname
