The descendents of the Thugen tribes have always been some of the most warlike of the tribes in Old Ashenfeld, and even today the Carthlanders are as fiery as ever. None perhaps demonstrate this fiery, warlike fury than Miranda, Duchess of Carthland. Her birth was a scandal in itself as the ruling family tried to hide her tiefling nature for as long as possible, though this proved impossible as she grew. This sparked nationwide controversy and gossip, though in the end Miranda would ascended to rulership as her parents died suddenly when she was 40 years old. Regardless of foul play or no, Miranda brought about numerous reforms weakening the strength of the Church of the Flame in Carthland and instead giving more power to Utarr, and is even said to have gone to the great temple of Utarr to be blessed by the highest Utarrian priests in Carthland. Supposedly several spectral wolves of blue fire appeared and howled their approval before the priests, proving she was truly blessed by the wolf god Utarr. The rebellion of Carthland was by no means a shock but even still it overwhelmed loyalist forces from Aramoor, and even today Aramoor is only barely able to hold a vast defensive line against the Carthland tide. Miranda has also been diverting forces to fight with Haerford, and is starting to gain significant ground. Miranda is probbably one of the only Carthland rulers to ever be mostly liked by the populace, who see her as a means to bring about the old, proper ways of their past, and reembrace their warrior herritage.
