Why must one be content to just heal the sick for the sheer benefit of being nice. Why can't one make a little coin while he works. Those who work in the Lacrimae Doctore for any prolonged period of time learn to always make a profit no matter what that might be. As such prices for services can be high in some areas, and for good reason as no other medical organization is as fine as they are, even outclassing some clerics. The price for their services can be more then just coin, with some victims of plague being so desperate as to submit themselves for the rumored dakr experiments that the plague doctors preform on the afflicted. However a darker rumor is alot of times these doctors will preform unusual and cruel experiments on the plague victims anyway, even if they already paid coin, and simply use magic to make the victims forget the experince, or they simply die from the experiment.
Lacrimae Doctore doctors are also cold pragmatists, some being able to take one step in the city and accurately calculate who he should attempt to cure and who he should simply leave to wither and die. Some offer their services as sellswords, proving to be extremely good medics, of course the cure for the weeping plague is never given to these sellswords for fear of the information being spread to the wider peoples. One curious failsafe to prevent this is that magical spells are placed on Lacrimae Doctore operatives to forget how the cure was made, as to prevent any from perhaps gazing into their mind, or someone charming the individual into coughing up the recipe
Due to the notorious nature of their uniforms, strange beak like masks and dark black clothing, the sight of a plague doctor brings both fear and comfort. The promise of a cure to the pain, but a sign of death, decay, disease, and cold greed.

The Lacrimae Doctore is the largest freelance medical organization in the world, owing allegiance to no country so as to better travel the world and offer their services to no one kingdom. Due to their prices, they are very wealthy, and able to afford all the medical ingredients and tools they need to preform their experiments and antidotes. Many of their "Plague Doctors" are wizards who use magic to enhance their potions and concoctions.

History

This organization mysteriously appeared as the Weeping Plague came to be known, and have been operating ever since. No one knows anything else about thier history except for their inner circle of founders
