Culture and Cultural Heritage

Kōjin culture is very much based around might makes right. Being the apex predators of the seas, they are deadly and wild, many seemingly being untamed rage fueled berserkers. However, this rage and wild nature is entirely required to survive under the waves of the Leanan Sea. A great many Kōjin die young rather then of old age, for their life is one of constant battle. For this reason, many Kōjin actually dream of becoming samurai, and a great many are full blooded samurai. These Kōjin samurai are most common amongst the Kieda Clan, for the expert sailor samurai of the clan prefer to have aquatic like races accompany them on their long voyages.   Kōjin, despite being apex predators, are also incredibly emotional. When they are sad, it is like the deepest, most crushing depths of the ocean enclose around them, and when they are angry, it is like the fury of the sun itself bearing down on the being foolish enough to incur their wrath.

History

Long ago in the lands of Kantō, there was the Six Great Dragon Council, made up of the great elemental dragons that helped birth the world, and watch over it with the great Kami gods. It is said that the elemental dragons wished to beseech the Kami gods to secure the waves of the land, beyond just using storms. They sensed a great evil deep beneath the waves, so deep that storms would not affect them. While the Kami gods did not listen at first, one of the dragons, that of the sea, would skulk in an underwater cave by himself. He would create a warrior race that would be able to defend the places underneath the waves, and after a long time, the Kōjin were born. Soon after, great and terrible demosn from the deepest reaches of the sea would charge out into the waters, However they never managed to wreck havoc on the surface of Kantō, for the Six Great Dragon Council and the Kōjin fought them and prevented them from invading the surface. This would seal the Kōjin's fate as warriors of the seas. Soon after fishermen would tell tales of strange and wild shark like people swimming along the waves, and only after a while did the Kōjin reveal themselves. While intimidating at first, no citizens of the Empire of the Rising Sun is more patriotic or more loyal then that of Kōjin.
