Great Eye Madness
Blood Eye Horde
Those infected with this disease form the Blood Eye Horde. They are entirely focused on the destruction and enslavement of all who are not inflicted with their curse, and value war above all else. Due to their maddened and insane powers and fascination of war, they are curiously taller and stronger then the average person, some people thinking they are super human. Their culture is barbaric and wild, with might makes right being the most literal representation of these people. they prostrate themselves before their debased god, and seek to enslave other people for either sacrifice or labor, being somehow more brutal of a slaver people then even the drow. due to this reputation, they are the greatest threat to the other vikingir clans, and all clans want this plague of madness infested bloodshed to be over and done with.Transmission & Vectors
Some aldinian scholars believe that this plague of madness comes from prolonged contact with others, or by handling or being granted visions by demonic entities.
Causes
No known cause is linked to this madness
Symptoms
Madness, general loss of sanity, hallucinations, voices in head, and a seeming pull to worship a strange entity known as Vethlosh, a terrifying and maddening entity that seems to represent the end of the world. Many aldinians believe this is the insane side of the Wrym, that has come to destroy the world.
Treatment
No known treatment works to cure this madness. Only death redeems those too far gone, and regular spiritual cleansing and ones own willpower can help prevent the madness from fully taking over.
Prognosis
The infection starts slowly, and insidiously. It slowly affects ones behavior over time, making them more agitated and angry. Then they become distraught and mournful, as they suffer visions of death and a million bloody eyes staring at them from all over the world. After this they will generally start to rapidly loose their sanity, and give in to their delusions and visions, and at this point they become blood crazed killers who will kill anything around them that is not infected by them. They will also seek to sacrifice captives to their maddening god, and in rare cases infect captives with their madness.
Affected Groups
Strangely, only those from Aldinnheimr have experienced this phenomena as of now, as no known cases outside have been present in other populations. Granted, madness is a hard thing to accurately track in a world so vast...
Prevention
Prevention isn't easy as the madness is not fully understood in how it spreads, seemingly infecting at random. Regular visits to the village shamans and seers for spiritual cleansing and blessings are a seemingly effective strategy, as well as having a strong willpower
Epidemiology
Seemingly at random
History
No one knows quite how it started. What is known is that randomly in the year 4220, the Boar Clan would be ravaged rapidly and swiftly with some plague of madness. The boar tribe would dissolve entirely, now just known as The Hel Horde. The Boar Clan survivors have scattered into the wilds and now the Hel Horde seeks to drown the rest of Aldinnheimr in unfathomably violent decay. Some seers say that this is because the northlanders didnt give enough worship and praise to the Wrym, and so now the Wrym has gone mad, and the end of the world has begun. However, due to how this event does not line up with the prophecy of Ragnarök, these seers also say that perhaps this event was not meant to happen, and that if they can stop this plague, Ragnarök will be denied until the time is right.
Cultural Reception
This madness ahs greatly terrified the northlanders, who believe this is a sign that the the end of the world has come. However, instead of lying down and dying, many seek to fight back this tide of madness, to deny Ragnarök from consuming the world itself. Many now are worried that they will go mad and kill their family and friends, and so for this reason vikingir raids of other lands has slowed down considerably, though a few raids still set out to gather supplies to help fend off this tide of madness. Many northlanders believe if they fail to contain it, these insane tribes will ravage the rest of the world.
