Dragonborn

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn possess a humanoid form, but have scales showing their draconic heritage, as well as other draconic features

Biological Traits

Dragonborn are a race of generations, for the closer they are to their draconic parent, the more apparent their race is. The first generation is the direct child of a dragon proper, and they are large, powerful humanoids with all the benefits of their draconic parent besides flight. They have breathe attacks, resistance and affinity to certain elements, and live for effectively forever. However as a Dragonborn has children with outsiders, the blood dilutes just a little bit each time. This leads draconic features very slowly becoming less apparent the further you go down in generation. However even the furthest down the generation are powerful people and capable of great feats.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn first are born when a dragon sleeps with another species. Gestation takes the usual amount of time, but the child will be a Dragonborn. Now Dragonborn can have children of their own, but this will dilute the blood over time, and the further down the generations you go, the less apparent the Draconic blood shows itself until they effectively just look like a human or something with small scales.   There is some rumors that someone can be turned into a Dragonborn if a dragon curses them for stealing their horde to better mark them as a thief. It's not entirely known if this folk rumor is true.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn reach maturity at around 15, being able to maturity rather quickly

Facial characteristics

The face of a Dragonborn obviously has traits similar to a sort of humanoid dragon. The further down the generation they go, the more they look like their non-draconic parent rather than their draconic one. While they typically don't grow hair, they can sometimes grow facial hair and tentacle like things on the back of their head resembling dreadlocks.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Draushril have a strong sense of hierarchy, with the generation a Draushril was born to being like a status symbol among Draushril society. Those more close to their direct dragon ancestor are effectively leaders of their clans, while the further you go the further down the hierarchy you land. Due to their rigid regard for hierarchy, dragons take on a god like quality to the Draushril, with their ancestors effectively forming a pantheon in their clan communities. They are a pious people seeking to honor their ancestors and to bring shame or insult them is unthinkable to them. No matter the generation though, all worship the dragon god Nildraal, which does rub some purists for the Church of the Flame or other churches the wrong way, but regardless the faith in the primal draconic god Nildraal remains strong to this day.

History

The tale of the Dragonborn, or the Draushril in their tongue (with draushum meaning dragon) is intertwined with that of the dragons themselves. There is still much speculation on the origins of dragons themselves. It is said that the Draushril began with the great Dragon God Nildraal. He was a titanic figure of unimaginable proportions, but he was a lonely god. That was until he saw the mortal races of the world, and found them beautiful. That was when he would go down to the mortal world to sleep with some of the mortal races, typically using polymorph to make himself less threatening. The children that spawned from this paring would be Dragonborn, Draushril. In fact this tale is sometimes used to explain the old fairytale of knights having to rescue damsels from dragons and their hordes. Whatever the case, these Draushril would at first be scorned, for most of society at this time knew of the old tales of dragons rampaging across the world. However as time moved on, the blatant hate gave way to acceptance as these Draushril simply lived among the people, however many Draushril would form powerful clans and societies based upon the blood of their ancestor. To this day, sometimes when someone gives birth, they are shocked to find out they give birth to a Dragonborn, despite how few dragons are left over in these years.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Draushril can seem strange to many outsiders. There aren't as many of them around as some more populous races, and their appearance can sometimes be scary, but in truth there isn't too much prejudice or scorn levied against them on the whole. Dragonborn for the large part are usually just a small clan of people living in a city block to most outsiders. They are pretty popular in more magical fields or warrior based professions, which given their inherit strength isn't a surprise.
