Clan Nocferti

It is said in some circles that history is shaped not by the masses, but by a few powerful men and women. Regardless of the truth of this, for those of the Nocferti Bloodline, it is perhaps the founding principle of their entire way of life. They are the second-oldest bloodline, but the first to expand quickly across the world with their damnable bloodline. They are the apex of vampiric courtly intrigue, the masters of the Midnight Aristocracy, those that lurk in far more governments than people will ever truly realize. Theirs is a history that is somehow both shrouded and also resplendent with history.   Some say they have their origin with the second generation of vampires, having long since integrated themselves into the scattered tribes now becoming the first kingdoms of the land. The founder of the bloodlines' namesake was one Amaris Nocferti, a high standing noblewoman that had infiltrated the upper echelons of early Ashenfelds royal court. She was said to have been sent to marry a high standing nobleman in the Vunao Kingdom (what later becomes the Deadlands). Though the nobleman was of "poor breeding" the marriage would theoretically provide great boons for both kingdoms. Amaris was opposed to this, but had little say, though it is said after refusing the nobleman she was locked in the highest point of the tower as punishment. Late into the night, a strange bat came and perched on the window, and Amaris in a fit of exasperation declared her name and bade the bat to prostrate itself. The bat, surprisingly, did so, and Amaris was said to have been compelled to give a gift to this bat creature for bending the knee, as it were. She pricked her finger and gave the bat a drop of blood, and then a dark cloud enveloped the both of them. A figure of shadow and haunting red eyes would appear to Amaris, and whisper sweet seductions to Amaris, complimenting her show of dominance over lesser beings.   None are quite sure what happened after, but it is believed that this granted her even more power than her vampiric blood already provided, and it is said that the wedding was turned into a bloody spectacle of death and pain. She feasted on her husband to be and all in attendance, though the truth of the event never got out until far, far later. She expanded her inner circle of allies with suitors and the like, and would give those she favored the blood kiss. Thus, the bloodline of Nocferti was born, the ones seemingly destined to rule the Deadlands, and eventually the entire world in a tide of dark shadows.

Culture

To those of Clan Nocferti, their blood is more than just another lineage of the vampire. It is noble blood, signs of noble breeding and stature. It is the blood that will one day encompass all kings and queens of the world, or whatever various titles leaders give themselves. It is blood that is not given out freely, for Nocferti are picky more than anyone else of who they gift the blood kiss too. Even then, the politics of their bloodline is some of the most cutthroat and vicious of any bloodline. While the Brotherhood of Cain will be very direct with their schemes, the Nocferti excel in stalking from the shadows and orchestrating the downfall of their rivals with barely any physical effort on their part. This is not to say they shun combat, and indeed many of the Nocferti are fierce warriors, but life in the courts has taught them that it is so much less trouble to simply watch your rival crumble in front of you.   More so than anyone else, Nocferti are not truly happy unless they have someone working under them. The world is their lesser, and it is all the more pleasing when they remember this fact. To have people kneel before them, offer themselves body and soul to them, and to bask in the beauties of rulership are seen as divine aspirations. They are some of the first to come up with blood taxes for their ruled realms, and this allows them to live in luxury without having to worry too much about the dangerous task of hunting and feeding. They make sure their lesser are cowed into submission, and make examples of those who dare step out of line. While some can argue that Nocferti vampires rule their lands surprisingly well, some may even say they rule fairly, in the end it is all to serve their immense egos and delusions of grandeur. Some even begin to instill worship of them in their ruled lands like some sort of living god or demigod.
