Bor-Unric

The Bor-Unric people have existed off of their island off the coast of northern Ustaria for as long as they can remember. They are theorized to either have already existed there, or perhaps were tribes that migrated across the sea as the ocean was frozen before it thawed out. Whatever the case, the Bor-Unric people at this time had no name, and were simply just "the tribes" that existed. This would change however when the great Elven Migration happened, and many elves would immigrate to this land and live amongst the people. The Tribes and Elves would find peaceful coexistence easy, but this peace was disrupted by a sudden horde of demons that were summoned by accidental magic spells.   The once cold plains burned with hellfire, and all was thought lost until one great hero arrived: Bori Unto. Bori would come to the tribes and declare himself the great general of the tribes, and would display masterful tactics. So great was he that he utterly vanquished the demonic tribes, eventually winning the war by challenging the demonic prince to a duel for the fate of their island home. The duel lasted for days, but Bori was victorious. As the demons fled, Bori told of his people to always remember that he was watching them, and then he is said to have glowed brightly as he began to dissipate and fly up into the sky. He ascended to godhood, and from this day on the tribes called themselves the Bor-Unric, or Unricians.   Since then they have existed on their island, warring with each other from time to time but always being united. However, the land is rich with gold, and this brings the ever longing eyes of other nations. They have suffered invasion from Rustil, Aldinnheimr, and many others, but to this day the island nation has never been conquered. Though some territory may be lost, the Unricians simply sing their songs that it will always be remembered or retaken with time, and so far they have been uncannily correct. Recently many have migrated across the world, with their unique music proving to be incredibly popular across Ustaria, and the Aldinians have a surprising sort of respect for these brave people, and are some of their regular trade partners.

Culture and cultural heritage

Worship of ones ancestors and family line is very common amongst the Unricians. This is due to the ideal of becoming a hero amongst the people. All villages and tribes are led by a Hero General, chosen through a very precise and rigorous ritual with prayers and vote. These Hero Generals are said to be infused with a portion of Bori himself, and become some of the best warriors of the land. These generals regularly become minor gods and folklore heroes, being the embodiment of honor, duty, and courage. This has made the pantheon of the Unricians quite extensive, leading some scholars to refer to this island as housing a thousand, thousand gods. This yearning for glory drives many young Unricians to seek adventure and great deeds to accomplish. Every Unrician worships their ancestors, and those with families that bore great heroes are sort of treated like nobility upon the island. Besides ancestral worship, much of the folklore has commonalities with the Aldinian folklore, leading some to believe a common ancestry. The Unrician's also value music and art, with music being the most popular way to pass time and also seen as a mark of good character if one is able to sing.

Average technological level

Thanks to their trading with Aldinnheimr, many foreign technologies and metallurgy methods have made their way to their humble island of Sakri. Wood villages dot the land, and in recent history, great stone fortresses have been built. Due to a lack of gunpowder, gunpowder weaponry is effectively non-existent on Sakri, but besides that most of modern technology can be found quite easily amongst the Unricians.

Common Dress code

Due to the naturally cold climaate of their island of Sakri, most clothing is designed around keeping warm. As such, animal furs and pelts and thick material is the norm, however their clothing is also incredibly colorful thanks to the precense of many natural dye material in the land.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a Unrician is about to give birth, a special sauna is prepared to help relax the parents and ease the pain of childbirth. Special herbs and other ingredients are also burned to mix in with the air to also help ease tension. When the Unrician is born, a small celebration is had, and the town leader is expected to at the very least send a sort of "gift box" which has many toys and supplies to help the new parents in their first year of parenting. This was seen as a sort of way the town or tribe welcomes the new baby into life, and can help the child learn hospitality and kindness later in life.

Coming of Age Rites

There are two coming of age rituals. The first is hunting an animal and using their skin to make something, be it a cloak or sash or belt. The second is to then make their own coffin that they will be buried in when they die. They can of course receive help for this step as not everyone is skilled in woodwork. This practice is to signify the "death" of their childhood and their transition into adulthood, remembering that they will return to the soil with time.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Honoring the dead can change based on the persons deeds in life. If they were one of the greatly admired and worshiped generals or leaders, they were given a grand funeral, if not a more simple one was had. However all funerals follow a general principal of burying the dead within 3 weeks of passing, and simply saying prayers as they are buried in a wooden coffin.

Common Taboos

Calling one a coward, or any insinuation of a lack of honor is such a grave insult to the Unricians, that if one is to tell someone such things, the victim is allowed to slay the transgressor with zero legal repercussions, though the family of the slain may of course take offense to this slaying and solve their grievances themselves.
