Aos Sí

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humanoid

Biological Traits

Aos Sí possess an innate bioluminescence, with patterns of faint light streaking across their bodies, including the iris of the eye and their hair. While typically dim, this light changes in luminescence according to the mood of the Aos Sí. If a Aos Sí is happy, they flare up. If they are deeply distraught, the light will fade.   Aos Sí visually resemble humans on a surface level. Their skin is made of smooth plant matter or rough bark, with various leaves and sometimes even flowers adorning their body. Different types and castes exist depending on the type of tree that dreamed them into being. Those who are dreamed of Hawthorn trees are more diplomatic and friendly, those who are dreamed from Oak trees are warriors and prefer to experience things first hand and attack problems head on. Those who are dreamed from Hazel trees are scholars and philosophers, and enjoy studies and puzzles over physical pursuits. Finally, those dreamed from Rowan trees are secretive and self-contained, preferring to travel alone.

Genetics and Reproduction

All Aos Sí are born of a mother tree. This tree can be diffrent types of wood but all these trees are connected by the Pale Tree, a massive tree deep in the forests of Red Ravens Rock, and all these trees connect the dreams and knowledge of all Aos Sí together. A tree will "dream" and from that dream, a Aos Sí will be born and change depending upon the tree. Aos Sí are not born as children, they emerge from golden pods fully grown, physically and mentally akin to a fully grown adult of another species

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

A Aos Sí's hair, if you may call it that, is typically made of leaves and in some cases twigs or even fungi. The eyes of a Aos Sí also glow depending on mood. They also sport pointed ears similar to elves, leading some to question if they came from the Fey Wild

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Aos Sí names typically resemble the names of the Celta they share the isles with. Aos Sí do not have surnames, as they're all part of the same "family", though to each other they are more like distant relatives. Aos Sí do not "choose" their names nor are they outright given by their mother tree or other Aos Sí. Instead, the Aos Sí simply 'know' their names upon awakening

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Strangely, they appeared speaking the exact same language as the Celtans

Common Dress Code

Aos Sí fashion everything, from furniture to houses to weapons, from plant matter. Their craftsmanship looks as if it was naturally grown. Aos Sí usually clothe themselves in light garments made from leaves or flowers, or armor made of hardened bark. Some may even grow their clothes or armor out naturally, without any external aid. Not many Aos Sí opt to wear more traditional clothing or armor, as it does not feel natural to them. Nevertheless, armor crafted by a skilled Aos Sí craftsman can easily provide the same protection as their regular counterparts

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The uncertain nature of the Aos Sí existence is often the focus of a Aos Sí's life: to search for a purpose in this strange world wracked by conflict. Every Aos Sí goes about this quest in a different manner. Some might search for a purpose by indulging in the pleasures this world has to offer, others might take a more logical approach and try to unravel the secrets of the universe to gain their answer. They will then pass on what they have learned to the Pale Tree, for the benefit of all forthgoing generations of Aos Sí

History

Born of a great tree known as the Pale Tree, that in turn blessed other trees to birth these great beings, they originally gave quite the scare to the Celtans who thought they might be strange swamp demons seeking to tempt them into the dangerous forests, but after some rather tense stand offs, the Aos Sí helped the Celtans realize that they meant no harm. Afterwards, many Celtans would embrace these strange plant folk like kin, with many saying they were children of the goddess Danu. Now they live amongst the Celtans and help guide them safely through life.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Being as new to the world as they are, Aos Sí occupy a strange spot in the grand scheme of the world, but the Celta embrace them warmly like kin, and in turn the Aos Sí do the same.
