Kings Council
This council advises and supports the king. While it was traditionally no more than 7 members, there is actually no limit to how many can sit on the council. While there are seven roles, that are titled. Many who sit on the council have no official and will simply advise. There are however, five permanent seats on the council. The Snow Elven Charter declared that every High Lord had the right to sit or be represented on the council. Tradition states either they sit directly on the council or they will send a blood relative, usually the heir, to sit on the council. This was often referred to as "The Dukes Right"
The current High King Filarion Glacier has tried to reform the council, including removing the charter that entitles a High Lord to sit on the council. This was due to his dislike of Calneris Carnen, however there was almost a revolt when the nobles heard of his plans. Saving the council from change. Filarion had aimed to make it that all those who sat on the council, served at the kings pleasure. Even the High Lords.
Most High Lords will sit on the council themselves or send their heirs. The Carnens would send their heir for ten years once the High Lord had decided on who would take over for them. However, the Humans, known as The Othranar, elect someone to the seat on the council, usually this person is not the High Lord, instead it is usually someone the High Lord puts forward. They are elected halfway through the High Lords term in office, allowing the Othranar to always have someone in a position of power. They serve for the same amount of time as the High Lord.
The captain of the kings guard is also granted a seat on the council, as not only do they run the kings guard, but they are responsible for the city guard.
The Roles in the Council:
