Frostg Family
General Description
Family Crest:
Having spent so long tied to the Eternal Onir, the Frostgs have naturally claimed her symbol as their own and proudly display the symbol of Onir.Their crest is sword flying over a lit brazier with purple raven wings.
Festung
Only the Frostg family have their Festung in the free city of Torgvik. While all the Merchant families have some sort of shop in the Torgvik, they don't have their Festung in the port city. They view Torgvik as undwarvish as it allows foreigners onto the island and is the only way to trade with dwarves on their homeland. The Festung of the Frostgs while having a store front and a small manor for their own family, is actually more akin to a large hotel, they have a large multi-story building that plays host to many visitors. They are known to love to host and have over the centuries continuously expanded this part of the Festung to allow more and more honoured guests to visit. It is also known for allowing the lost or poor of Torgvik to spend a night, especially during the harsh winters.
The Festung also has a large and well decorated ballroom that is the talk of Torgvik, should one be invited to attend, they can guarantee they are in for a marvellous night of good spirited fun. It is well known the Frostgs are so kind that they often let tired and wary travellers stay with them at no cost.
Frostg Family History
Early History:
The Frostg family are one of the oldest merchant families in Kesari, they helped with the migration and conquest of the Alkonost's home. When Hildinar decreed that the Dwarves would focus on trade, he allowed the Frostgs to become one of the first Merchant families. The original trade of the Frostg family was weapons of war. They are credited for creating some of the best and most durable siege weapons ever known in Terrene. Eventually the family would come to see the power of Onir, however, they viewed her love and light as a way to conquer. It wasn't until around the 6th century of the first era, that they begun to adopt a more classical view of Onir and begun to become the welcoming and caring family they are now known for.
Merchant Lords No More:
1E 605y. - 1E 655y.The Frostg family would suffer from the decision to stop trading in the weapons of war. It was under Jarl Merin Frostg, that they would lose their status as one of the 14 merchant families. As she begun to struggle with replacing the trade they lost.
Merin Frostg would look outside of Kesari for a chance to regain her fortune and it would be her actions that would lead to the founding of the XXXX company that made the Dwarves so rich a few hundred years later. Merin would begin to build more and more ships until she had a fleet of trading vessels. She then sent them out to trade with the Humans of Voronda, the Elves of Ardamire and the Leonin of Leralethron and while this helped regain some of her families wealth, it would not allow the Frostgs to become Merchant Lords again.
After two decades it became clear this was a profitable business, but to regain what she had lost her family, she needed to expand further and this was where the problem laid. Non-Dwarves could not land on Kesari, but all the traders she worked with stated they could spend more and make more if they could bring wares onto Kesari. So she found a work around. The Frostgs anchored several ships off the coast of the city and had them converted to be floating shops, they then operated a ferry service multiple times a day so dwarves could come and purchase goods from them. The ships were Dwarven owned and off the coast, meaning no rules were broken. Adding in the small fee added, the Frostgs would reclaim their title as a Merchant Lord in the year 655.
Now back under the royal umbrella they would spent the next 27 years and in the year 682 Torgvik would become the city of foreigners to the Dwarves. The only city foreigner would be allowed into on Kesari.
