Richard's Folly
A lighthouse was placed at this point in order to guide ships on their way to Swannport, as well as to commemorate an event early in the area's Duskhan history.
Richard was the the first mate of a ship that took the first wave of colonists, looking for a place to found a new city -- what would eventually become Swannport to the north. The first stop was near the sandy beaches of the Point. Richard was tasked by the ship's captain to take an away team to assay the situation, find fresh water, and see to provisions.
When Richard landed his longboat on the beach here, they were met by local natives, tribes that would be later called collectively, the Minari. Using sign and gesture, they were able to make contact and indicate intention for trade with them, which then became cause for celebration in the honor of the visiting Duskhans.
Richard quickly was smitten by one of the beautiful, blue-eyed and blonde-haired women of the tribe. Against the better judgment of some of the men with him at the time, he soon wandered away with her. However, it was a mistake. Where the woman wanted to show him dried herbs and containers of woven grass for trade, he thought she sought time alone with him and he tried to have sex with her.
This erupted in a violent confrontation involving the woman's enraged husband -- the tribe's witchdoctor -- and the Duskhan newcomers. Casualties were inflicted on both sides, though the Minari certainly suffered the worse. This caused a rift between colonists and the tribes that lasted well over a century.
