Chief
Chiefs are the women or men who act as leaders of the Astraean people. They are the highest-ranking members of the community.
Qualifications
Council of Elders Elections
Members voted on by the community. Any community member aged 20 and older is eligible to run as a delegate. Each community member over the age of 10 gets a rock or stone from the beach and places it in a bowl, darning the delegate's name. The delegates with the most votes serve on the council for the year.
Chief Elections
The experienced delegate with the most votes is elected Chief. If the person with the most votes has not yet served on the Council of Elders, then the highest-voted delegate with experience is placed as chief.
If a vote is tied or cannot be decided by the original vote, then an additional vote will be taken with only experienced delegates in consideration.
Requirements
Elected chiefs must be 21 years of age and have served at least one year on the Council of Elders.
Appointment
Chiefdom is appointed at the same time as the rest of the Council of Elders.
Most members of the community will have a cloak as a part of their typical daily wear. If they do not have one, they will be given one. Cloaks of all Council members will be lined with a thin blue ribbon. It is humble but signifies to the community that they are people who will listen and give a voice to all community members.
Chief's cloaks are lined with the same blue ribbon and two thin red ribbons.
Duties
Chiefs are responsible for listening to and leading the community. They are the leader and the ultimate decision maker of the Council of Elders. Chiefs will be present at every council meeting. They use their knowledge of the community and its needs to make decisions that will benefit the people of Astrea.
