Description

The Holy Queendoms is a land of innumerable Counties, Duchies, Queendoms, and everything in-between all worshipping a goddess represented by an eight-pointed sun housing a woman's face. Brought together by a common book yet torn asunder by its infinite interpretations, it is in a constant state of crusade within itself. An unbelievably volatile landscape, often waging wars over what seems like minor insignificant details. It is thought that the victor of such a war clearly holds The Goddess' favour and therefore their reading of The Good Book is correct, leading them to a Golden Age while the losers are left to suffer in penance for their sins.

The very lands themselves shifting in accordance to this dynamic, between light and dark, guilt and glory, the divine and the profane. With every loss leading them away from Her embrace, slipping further and further into darkness and corruption while every victory guides them towards the path to righteousness. Of course this only reinforces their belief in The Goddess, but whether this phenomenon is evidence of her existence or whether it's a manifestation of the greater will of the people themselves, a psychic gestalt permeating the very soil they walk on, remains to be seen.

Society

Highly militarised, conscription for men is mandatory serving at minimum six months to a year in basic training. Of those, ones showing a particular skill with the blade and devotion for the cause are selected for further advancement while the others are allowed to return to working the fields or pursuing a craft under one of the various guilds. Serving as reserves in times of crisis.

For the ones selected however, training never ceases, constantly honing their abilities in both speech and sword in order to not only better themselves but to protect their communities. Keeping them continuing on what they see as the road to the divine. The most talented of which go on to become Sonnensprechers; warrior-priests clad in gilded armour and golden mitres these absolute behemoths are able to inspire the most righteous of fervours inside the most insipid of crowds. Wielding great sacred zweihänders on the battlefield and The Good Book off it, they're able to lead their fellow peoples through battles of both physical and spiritual natures alike.

Women are revered, seen as earthly representations of The Goddess herself they hold the highest points of both office and household meanwhile lineages are matrilineally derived. Although not taking part in the traditional boots-on-the-ground war, they are engaged in one nonetheless albeit of a different order; operating under an incredibly complicated network of pseudo-alliances and bitter rivalries they are constantly critiquing their others by performing morality tests under the guise of various social gatherings such as feasts, church services, festivals and the like.

Should they determine that one is not "up to form" then it is entirely possible war will be declared and the proceeding events will be left up to the will of The Goddess. Yet a Queen or Duchess who wages war for more personal reasons often finds themselves on the losing side, leaving them and them alone to have to deal with the guilt and consequences of their actions. Although it's not usually a problem since the most devoted and outspoken voices of The Goddess tend to be women in the first place.

Ethos

Overall they tend to view the world in a state of constant struggle between good and evil. In their creation myth the world before Her Holiness was one of darkness and profanity, where the night was never-ending. The people suffered immensely and eldritch practices were the norm, practices which still continue in certain circles to this day. Yet with them being in near total darkness the people were blind to the true nature of their actions and continued on regardless.

The Goddess, seeing this and taking pity upon them decided to bless an area, however small, with a hint of sunlight such that they would finally awaken and see the world for the wickedness it truly held. This turned out to be a double-edged sword as it not only gave them a vision for what the world could be but what it currently was. It is not uncommon for even the greatest of houses to still hold guilt in their hearts over "The Old Ways". And so now, the world stands in flux, existing as the front line in a divine battle between the forces of light and darkness with the people it's warriors. They will continue to fight so long as their belief in The Goddess allows for it, and they all dream of the day when The True Reading will surface and unify the land into an unprecedented era of light, peace, and ultimately happiness.
