Chapter 8: Revelations

"Fight well my son, and know that I love you"

General Summary

Their heist was not in vain, as now they can return to Fumblemore’s tower and cure Old Peculiar of his ailment. The ingredients are tossed into a boiling cauldron as it turns from a bright yellow mixture to one of deep crimson with specks of gold. The scent emanating from the mixture is putrid but with time running out it may be their last hope to save Peculiar. As he knocks back this concoction his stature changes, the wrinkles in his face slowly begin to fade, and his previously greying skin shifts to more natural hues. Peculiar weeps as he hugs the party, thanking them for getting him this far, but now he needs their help once again. Something strange is happening deep below Mistral City and his sickness restricted him from going alone. Long ago his father delved deep into the Mistral mines but never returned and this has always haunted Peculiar. With everyone ready they begin towards the mine, leaving Skylord Lysander behind due to his fear of the caves below, and are confronted with dwarven runes guarding the cave entrance keeping any prying eyes out. Deciding it best to keep going they soon face giant arachnids, reanimated corpses, and strange figures cloaked in shadow. The final chamber has the scorched remains of a portal as well as a trunk containing a sword, armor, and a note. The note reads,
"Son if you are reading this then I am dead, I have walked through the portal to seal it shut. Know that I died to protect this land from a terrible evil. On the other side, there is a spirit who would destroy the world, it must not be allowed into Terra at any cost. If it somehow gets loose once again you must vanquish it. My armor and blade are here, it falls to you and those that stand with you to save the world

Now fully equipped the party is high with confidence but is not prepared for what awaits them back on the surface. Burning light illuminates the mine entrance as the group arrives at what remains of Mistral, a burning heap of fire and ash. Their terror turns to worry for the Skylord as they quickly rush to his home. The entire second story has collapsed leaving only a minimal portion of the living room visible. An unfamiliar voice calls to Kay-Ron and Razor from the basement below. In the basement is a shrine of bone with "Dark Master, I worship your unholy power" scrawled in blood along the walls.

Notes

Old Peculiar reads in his father's diary about a cult in town and that their base of operations is based in the crumbling ruins outside the city walls
