Magicast Daily News: Artifact Registration Act: Helpful or Hurting?
It has been over 6 months since the passing of the Magical Artifact Registration Act (MARA) in the House of Commons, spearheaded by Hosue Varconas and the Akashic Party. And we must ask: is it helping our fair city? Or hurting it.
In the words of Latinus Varconas, MARA was passed due to the influx of casualties and harm done by the wanton exposure of unidentified and untrained usage of various magical artifacts throughout the city. Due to magical nature of these events, it was difficult to even track down those responsible for damages and loss of life.
MARA has instilled a system in which all magical artifacts and items of a certain level of power would have to be registered through the House of Commons to a person. Any sale of said magical items must be tracked, receipted, and the new owner must then register said item with the House under their name. THere is also a yearly tax of magical items to be applied to any public damages and repairs required by the city.
The House of Commons Sribes Division have released a study, and fatalities and casualties due to the improper use of magical items and artifacts has in fact reduced by 57% in the last 6 months. The new roles and jobs created from the required logistics of MARA have create over 300 jobs throughout Runevale, as well as increasing the economy of Hexcross Bay and Karnavati due to the increase in taxes, sales of magical items, and magical item identification.
A few of those who have in their possession greater magical artifacts and were not able to pay their taxes due by the end of the year, have sold them to buyers, with the Hero of the Red Star and heir to Hosue Varconas, Holden Varconas, helping those inexperienced find buyers or trade them in for coin.
All in all, we could say that MARA has brought a positive impact to Runevale. What new legislation will we see next from House Varconas under new leadership?
