Kader

Backstory

Kader was a soldier of fortune - one of the many Mercenaries that inhabit the realm. Since he was old enough to swing a sword, Kader has worked for villages, caravans, and militaries alike. He has always fought for coin, but always gave consideration to who his employer was since his honor and reputation is worth just as much as the coin he stands to earn. During his career as a soldier of fortune, he built a small company of Mercenaries from like minded individuals. Among those was his close friend Rebis, whom he grew to trust as his second-in-command. On the battlefields of XXXX, among the chaos and fire, is where Rebis would ultimately betray Kader. With an arrow to his back, Rebis sought to eliminate Kader and take the reins of the company for himself. Kader did not die on that battlefield, however - fate has a different plan for him.
In Kader's final moments Tychus, the patron Spirit of Mercenaries and the Spirit of Chance, appeared to him. He would save Kader from his wounds, if he was willing to risk his free will. Agreeing to these terms, Kader watched as Tychus flipped the coin. If the coin landed on heads, Kader would recover and walk away no different than he was before. However, if the coin landed on tails, Kader would no longer have the ability to make meaningful decisions on his own - each and every meaningful decision from that moment on would be left to chance. Kader's luck was as fickle as could be this day, for the coin landed flatly in the dust, with no visage to greet him. Kader felt a change within, and Tychus vanished as mysteriously as he had appeared. The coin still lay by his side, and he picked it up putting it into his pocket. As he surveyed the carnage around, he considered whether he should continue on in the battle and seek out Rebis for vengeance, or whether he should just turn away while he still has his life in his hands. Before his mind could even begin to consider a decision, his hand reached into his pocket and balanced the coin on his thumb. He watched as his hand flicked the coin into the air, and two thoughts crystalized in his mind.
"Heads... I leave. Go somewhere away from all of this. My men think I'm dead anyways..."
"But Tails... I go after Rebis. I have to know why, and make him pay..."
The coin tumbled down and landed in the palm of his hand. There, with a blank stare, the image of the Empress greeted him. His decision was made for him, and his mind and body was filled with a conviction he never felt before. His anger and thirst for vengeance against Rebis melted away, and was replaced with a hopeful resolve to make a new life. Kader struggled with this for a short while, as seconds ago his greatest desire was to make Rebis pay, to make him explain why he would betray him. He did not fully understand the changes in his thoughts and feelings, but his newfound burning desire to go elsewhere animated his feet, away from the embers of the battlefield. From this moment, Kader had no choice but to take a chance.
