The Green District, Orendarium

The Green District is a large section of central-western Orendarium stretching from the agricultural farmlands of the north all the way to Herron Heights in the south. A landlocked district like Tiremme, it flourishes due to its connection to 7 other sections of the city, from dynamic and artistic Faubourg to working class Tiremme to the Exultant-only enclave of Marble Court. A region of gentle hills and good soil, it is named for the profusion of wild herbs and wildflowers that run wild through its streets and between the cobbles of its walkways; a goodly number of its buildings also use copper for roof slats and windowframes and the tarnish bleeds down the sides in charming green stripes.
Typical residential area in the Green District. This is the NE end of Drywell Road, a Delabi neighborhood. Residential and merchant areas blend together in the Green District. This curve along Archibald Way leads to a dressmakers, and a boarding house with a small cafe on the ground floor beyond that.
Large herbs like Woody Rue, Red Amaranth and Angelicum tower over the streets in many places, competing with rapid spreading mints, sage, st. johnswort and yellow susanna in the undergrowth. Everything is infused with the smell of basil, rosemary and oregano as well as pungent marigolds and sweet honeysuckle. Residents take great pride in the natural presentation of the plants in on their properties, however, and much of the beauty comes from trimming out dead stems, removing unwanted weeds and replanting more showy plants closer to the streets. Everything seems on the verge of bring overgrown but the plant growth rarely does so, only when buildings are truly abandoned. This is rare as the demand is high, both from residents of Tiremme and Faubourg moving upmarket and from Herron Heights and the Elven Quarter moving downmarket.
This cozy backlane of dragonflowers and sun daisies at the terminus of Rue D'Eglantine leads to a trade union hall for finance workers, and a tobbaconists. Foxtail Road houses a shoemaker's shop, a glassblowers, and barely visible on the right, a primary school. Tamarkand's Brewhouse is visible in the background.
