The Echo of Stars

One among thousands of fragile tomes of uncertain origin among the now-scattered high elves of Tergaith, whose population centers have dwindled in the saddle of the continent in favor of the woodlands and wild places in the northwest of the Realm. The Echo of Stars is notable as it is not primarily concerned with Elven History at all, but is rather a record of a singular crossover event in which the Lady of Pain, the mute female entity which rules Sigil, shed a single tear which fell through the worlds and planes to arrive on Tergaith at the end of the last planar conjunction (3332 years ago).   At that time several advanced Elven societies had their kingdoms in what is now the Wild Wastes, and these came together to marvel at the event and the Ethereal tear itself, which inspired them to create a system by which anchors could be used to shield Tergaith from threats among the stars. The tear, which the Elves names the Sorrow of the Silent Lady, is explained to be critical in this process. It records that a high elf of purest heart named Velendir Starshadow was chosen from among the Elven kingdoms and given the task of forever guarding the tear, being elevated into immortality in order to do so.   However, despite Sylvanwroth's obsessive concern and meticulous care for all the books in his library, the three key pages detailing what the Sorrow of the Silent Lady does, and where it or Velendir may currently be, are missing - torn out of the book.   In its place is a poem written on much newer and less fragile paper in a luscious black ink and folded up in thirds:   "Three pages lost, three truths concealed;
in shadowed depths, find these revealed.

Past warden's watch, through dark descent,
Seek the first where souls are spent.

Through traps that test and riddles sown
the second page can then be shown.

The final page requires your fear:
Solutions lie with Velendir.

Once these secrets are in hand,
Perhaps then you might understand:

The Silent Lady's Tear will make
a god turn back into a lake."

The elven script around the circle explains the contents as a historical record of Velendir, the one of purest heart who was to keep the teardrop safe until the time it was needed to save the world. It also encodes the date as year 1 of the current age (current date is year 3332).
