Orendarian Watchmen
The city guards of Orendarium are called the Watchmen, as a particular order of the City Watch and separate from voluneers, firefighters, etc. The term is used for both male and female Watchmen; in decades past there was probably a separate term as some of the older generation puts a pause in the word when speaking of a female, "Watchaman", probably "Watch-woman" years ago, but the term has been absorbed completely.
Within the Watchmen there are a variety of different divisions to better divide up the different activities including public postings at guard posts and civic buildings, customs work at the city's gates and docks, commerce regulators keeping an eye on currency and the banks, the Vice department regulating legal gambling and prostition and cutting down on the illegal varieties, and Sapiencide, the homicide division in a world with more than just human people, referred to as the Murders Division.
