Wieglish Dwarves

The Wieglish Dwarves are the population of dwarves known to reside within the Northern hills of Wiegland, bordering the misted lands of Keshari. Sometimes colloquially known as the "Hill Dwarves", the dwarves of Wiegland are a robust people known to be especially hearty even by dwarf standards, perhaps as a consequence of the air quality of Wiegland being much cleaner than the comparatively polluted atmosphere of Kovia, the dwarves' ancestral homeland.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

While the Wieglish dwarves have retained their ancestral dwarvish language, the accent with which they speak the language is distinctly their own, likely influenced by the dialects of the halflings and humans with which the dwarves share their region. For this reason the dwarves of Wiegland also frequently speak Common as well as Wieglish and Halfling, often employing these languages when conducting trade with outside races.

Culture and cultural heritage

The dwarves of Wiegland are celebrated farmers; unlike their halfling neighbors, who tend to specialize in crop production, the dwarven farms of Northern Wiegland are more commonly devoted to the rearing of livestock, primarily sheep and goats. Meat, wool and milk are often traded by the dwarves in exchange for the halflings' grain, vegetables and wine; trade between the humans of Wiegland is less common, mainly due to the comparative lack of proximity between the dwarven and human settlements of Wiegland.

Shared customary codes and values

Unlike the more industrially-focused dwarves of Kovia, the Wieglish dwarves are considerably less concerned with widespread mass production. Seemingly taking a page from their more lackadaisy halfling neighbors, the dwarves of Wiegland often gravitate towards simple comforts, eschewing massive factories and mining complexes for simple hilltop farming communities instead.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Wieglish dwarves place a great deal of aesthetic importance on their beards, the length and thickness of which are considered a mark of good health and maturity. Clean-shaven members of other races are regarded by the dwarves as an anomaly, and among their own people, shaving one's beard is considered incredibly taboo.

Gender Ideals

Much like the dwarves of Kovia, relatively little distinction is made between male and female dwarves; because both sexes are capable of growing thick beards, gender among the Wieglish dwarves is more a matter of presentation than physical characteristics. A female-presenting dwarf may adorn her beard with colorful ribbons and musical bells, while a male-presenting Wieglish dwarf may be more inclined to more traditional braided knots with fewer accessories.
