Dhampir are one of thetwo
Planetouched Races created by the necrotic energies of
The Shadowfell, with the other being the
Reborn. Also known as "half-vampires", dhampir are often created as the thralls or offspring of true vampires; as such the dhampir often share the same insatiable hunger for living creatures as their undead creators, whether it manifests as a desire for blood, flesh, or some other representation of "life force".
Appearance
Dhampir share many similar traits to that of their vampiric masters, including unnaturally pale skin, elongated canine "fangs" and other telltale characteristics.
Dhampirs usually display eye colors that are typical of their race of origin, although the irises of their eyes have been known to change to bright red in the presence of the source of their hunger.
Traits and Abilities
While not usually as powerful as a "full-blooded" vampire, dhampirs nevertheless possess a suite of supernatural abilities, including darkvision, enhanced speed and reflexes, and the ability to climb and scale sheer surfaces in ways that borderline on defying gravity.
The most recognizable ability of the Dhampir, of course, is their bite, which allows the dhampir to leech vitality from their unfortunate victim.
History
Dhampir have existed throughout the history across Teranuz, typically being met with fear or distrust due to their undead nature and dependency on living humanoids for sustenance.
In
Crestfall, the first major recorded appearance of dhampir occurred in the early Rebuild Era: in the then-developing nation of
Zholia, the tyrannical vampire lord Gulthias Budescu was known to take a number of willing
Human thralls into his embrace, transforming them into the half-undead Dhampir to serve as his lieutenants and courtesans.
In
Uzai, a small population of dhampir exist as descendants of a vampire tribe known as the Jiangshi; although the Jiangshi are believed to have been hunted to extinction by the
Vesh blood hunters prior to the arrival of the
Pallid Elves, the Jiangshi's half-human offpsring were spared this fate and continue to live on the fringes of modern Uzaian society. Unlike the vampires and dhampir of Crestfall, who primarily feed on the blood or flesh of living humanoids, the Jiangshi-descended dhampir instead feed directly on the life energy of their victims, leaving only a withered husk as remains.
