Durinbar
Durinbar forms the northeastern expanse of the Ironveil Mountains, a rugged sweep of peaks and deep-cut valleys where the stone carries the memory of countless generations. This portion of the range is home to the Durinbar Clan, a dwarven people known throughout Teramore for their openness, their artistry, and their willingness to engage with the wider world.
Geography
Durinbar’s mountains rise sharply, their slate-grey faces carved by ancient glaciers and crossed with mineral-rich veins. The southeastern slopes descend toward Verdantia, where foothills soften into fertile lowlands. Much of the clan’s livelihood flows along this eastern corridor, making Durinbar one of the most accessible—and most visited—dwarven domains.
At the heart of the region stands Mount Murnalduhr, whose lower flank houses the clan’s capital. The citadel of Murnalduhr is hewn directly into the mountainside, its walls carved from living stone and reinforced with airy terraces that overlook the valleys below. Only a fraction of the city is visible from the outside; most of its grandeur lies within, in great halls and vaulted passages lit by crystal lanterns.
Culture and Society
Unlike many dwarven strongholds known for insularity, the Durinbar Clan is notably sociable. Trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange shape daily life, and it is common to encounter travelers from Verdantia and beyond in their markets. Their craft traditions are rich and varied, with jewelers, metalworkers, and stonemasons renowned for designs that blend dwarven heritage with influences brought by foreign merchants.
Yet even in this open-faced culture, tensions linger. A number of traditionalists resent the growing influence of outsiders, fearing that the clan’s identity may erode beneath an influx of new customs and ideas. These concerns rarely disrupt the clan’s unity, but they add a rumbling undercurrent to civic debates and decisions.
People
Durinbar dwarves display great variety in appearance, a reflection of their long history of interaction with neighboring peoples. Some bear the stout, broad features typical of mountain dwarves, while others have finer, more angular traits shaped by centuries of intermingling. Regardless of their differences, nearly all share a cultural reverence for craftsmanship, precision, and the beauty of worked stone and metal.

High within the range lies the Forge of Echoes, one of the most enigmatic places in the Ironveil. According to clan lore, the Forge resonates with the voices of the past—whispers of long-departed artisans, warriors, and elders. Items forged here sometimes carry faint traces of these voices, said to strengthen resolve, sharpen memory, or offer guidance in moments of uncertainty. Whether these tales describe true magic or the powerful weight of history is a matter of debate even among the dwarves themselves.
Trade and Relations
Durinbar maintains strong ties with Verdantia to the east, exchanging metals, crafted goods, and stonework for grain, textiles, and alchemical materials. These routes are well-maintained and heavily traveled, forming a lifeline that supports both realms. Other trade routes wind westward into the deeper Ironveil, linking Durinbar with more traditional dwarf clans—relationships marked by both kinship and occasional friction.
Durinbar remains one of the most outward-facing dwarven domains in Teramore. It is a place where the weight of the mountains meets the bustle of new ideas, and where the clang of the forge is joined by the hum of conversation between peoples from across the continent.
