Doreth (DOHR-eth /ˈdoʊr.ɛθ/)
Doreth lies far to the east of Anuk, separated from the western nations by the expanse of Rariss and the unpredictable winds of the Azure Expanse. Very few in the west have seen its shores, and fewer still have ventured into its interior. What little is known has been gleaned from the accounts of Goliath wanderers and a handful of sailors who survived the eastern routes.
The continent is dominated by immense mountain chains that rise in layered spines from north to south. Peaks sheer enough to pierce cloud-banks form the natural borders between enormous high valleys. Glacial rivers carve through the stone, feeding cold, mineral-rich lakes that rarely thaw fully even in the height of summer. Forests are sparse; most vegetation clings to cliffsides or cluster in sheltered basins where the winds relent.
Doreth’s climate is harsh even by Tundrin standards. Blizzards roll in without warning from the northern sea, and storms form along the southern cliffs with terrifying speed. These conditions have shaped a people who rely on endurance rather than agriculture, and who build their settlements in places most would consider uninhabitable.
Trade with Doreth is minimal. There are no great ports carved into its coastlines, nor any political structures known to welcome foreign presence. Clans rather than kingdoms define the land’s social map, each claiming stewardship over a particular mountain or valley. The Goliath speak of these territories with deep reverence, as though the land itself were a living ancestor.
Beyond the Goliath, almost nothing is confirmed about other inhabitants of the continent. Some stories hint at ancient stone spirits, dormant titans, or entire herds of mountain-born creatures unknown to the west. Whether these are poetic metaphors or literal truths remains uncertain; most scholars err on the side of caution and list them simply as unverified.
Though distant and inhospitable, Doreth has influenced the wider world through the few of its children who wander abroad. Goliath mercenaries, explorers, and pilgrims have shaped battlefield legends and filled many a sailor’s tale. Yet these individuals represent only the smallest fraction of their homeland. The true scope of Doreth remains a mystery waiting for a generation bold enough—or foolish enough—to uncover it.
