First contact message

"Sir, they have sent a message"   "Well then hurry up and translate it Chief"   "Ummm, they repeated it in perfect Universal, Sir"   "How is that possible?"
— overheard on command deck during first contact encounter

First encounter

The first people to encounter the Ecai, were the operators of Listening Outpost Gamma 4. They first picked up the Ecai vessel, when it simply materialised near their small satelite station. After a series of hurried messages back to Command, it was confirmed that there there was no known human vessel that matched the design of this new ship. Not to mention the lack of available technology that could disguise an entire spaceship.   The woman in charge of the station, Station Chief Linder, asked for authorisation to begin non-invasive scans of the ship, and was granted it. Initial scans, revealed it to be made of an unknown metallic compound, and it gave off unusual energy readings, as is the ship itself was producing some kind of biological energy.

A surprising message

A few minutes after they began scanning, a message was relayed to the station, Communications Chief Jerden, listened to the incoming first, as per protocol as it had no authorisation level attached to it. There followed a series of surprises for the young officer. The first was that the origin of the message was the alien ship. The second was the completely incomprehensible language the first half of the message was in. The third , and most surprising, was the second half of the message was in perfect universal.

A Piece of History

The message is well known amongst most Ecai and Humans as it a monumental moment in both of their histories. Recordings of the message can be heard all over the [name for modern version of internet]. The fact that it was also the beginning of a peaceful and prosperous partnership between the two species, makes it even more noteworthy.

A Tourist Attraction

After advances in deep space scanning and monitoring, Listening Post Gamma 4, was decommissioned and returned to Earth. It has become a museum and tourist attraction now. People can walk around the station and even hear the original message, which is still stored on the stations data core.
