Oathstone of the Empyrean Hold

A rare artifact in Tentandia, an Oathstone is a powerful artifact used by the Empyrean Hold to mark treaties, alliances, war, and peace between members of the Hold's Council. Specifics regarding these artifacts are few and far between as the members of the Hold's Council jealously guard their respective stones form one another and the public eye, leading some to believe the Oathstones are fanciful myths of state. However, the existence of these artifacts is beyond question as they are referenced in court documents and treaties, and are occasionally paraded during times of celebration by members of the Hold's Council.   Where these artifacts came from is unknown; the first references to the Oathstones indicate they were carried over the sea by the Lords Founder of the Empyrean Hold. Further, these artifacts are alleged to have some magical properties to them which imbue fear and terror into all who come across them uninvited or unlawfully. The legitimacy of these claims has never been proven. According to those who have seen the stones however, they reflect an artistry and craftsmanship which seems ancient compared to modern techniques. While much is unknown regarding these artifacts their importance to the Empyrean Hold cannot be understated.

The Seven and the Oathstones

The Seven have come across two Oathstones in their travels. The first Oathstone they came across was that of Lord Winescale, which they stole from its ancestral home of Wyndfleot. When the Oathstone was taken from its dais Ranvak Brawnbeard was given visions of fire and ash, buildings collapsing and flame falling from the sky, and heard a deep and all encompassing roar. When Ranvak released the stone and again taken with a cover over his hands no such vision appeared again. The Seven still retain this Oathstone at the request of Lord Graendrek after their meeting in the Torfel in Salamis. Lord Graendrek was reticent to reveal too much detail regarding this item, mostly speaking of it through surrogates and agents, but rewarded The Seven handsomely for their efforts. The theft of this Oathstone is cited as the triggering cause of the War of the High Hold between Lord Graendrek and Lord Winescale.   The second Oathstone the Seven encountered was that of Lord Albion. While heading southward tracking agents of Radagos led by Telyn Windshear, the Seven came across the aftermath of the ambush of Lord Graendrek's diplomatic envoy to Lord Albion. Here they found a contingent of Iron Trees slain along with their current Bole-Spear Gunhild Abildgaard and the dying Mage Scholar Nesterin.  With his last words he entreated the Seven to recover this lost Oathstone and return it to Lord Albion, sending the Seven closer further on their quest to Range's Edge.  The Seven would make a stand against Radagos' forces at the mythical village of Range's Edge and recover Lord Albion's Oathstone, ultimately returning it to him after the battle.  Unlike Lord Graendrek, Lord Albion was much more grateful and open with the Seven following this deed, and is now indebted to the Seven for their service to him.
