Graystone of Khuldor in Venia

“Oh Kalderus, great Secretive One, hear our prayer. Please accept these humble offerings of flesh and blood which we have provided. We beg of you, oh Light in the darkness, grant us the strength and knowledge to persist."   While Graystone was frequently employed in Khuldorian rituals, the idol dedicated to Kalderus in Venia was among the world’s largest. Significance: As the object of the cult’s worship, it was the most important item for Venian adherents to Kalderus. All sacrifices were laid before the effigy.   Three slabs of Graystone created the finished idol.Steel chisels were used to carve impressions in the stone.   Smuggled into the city in several pieces at great expense, a wealthy cultist secured secluded underground rooms to act as a temple to Kalderus. This man served as the Interpreter and received a revelation about what the statue would look like. Masons active in the cult drilled holes into the stone and connected the pieces with wooden screws. Next, an artisan among their ranks chiseled Kalderus’ image into the stone. The final product was a hooded figure with an obscured face. Around Kalderus’ slender body rested puffs of smoke and long tendrils. They then set up the stone in their temple under cover of darkness, with the help of the Interpretor’s cheapest slaves. In thanks, the cultists held an orgy for all their members, complete with undiluted wine, Erabaxi green, and opium. Culminating the celebration was the sacrifice of one of the wealthy man’s political enemies. His blood was drained and body was chopped into pieces. His remains were never found. Next, they sacrificed the slaves and performed the same process. Before the sun rose, the cultists washed the blood from their bodies, changed clothes, emerged into the real world, and dispersed. They reconvened the next week and made more offerings to the dark god.
