Eliran Revolt

Prelude: Tensions and mutual hatred between the Diakai kingdoms and city states and the Satri Empire existed ever since the Empire conquered Elira. This land - situated in the eastern Insular Sea and across a narrow strait from Diakas itself - was home to numerous Diakai city states. Many of the oldest Diakai colonies were established there, and the religion held tight to its identity. War had erupted in Diakas for supremacy of the land and conflict in Elira had boiled over after discontent from Satri rule. The main rebel city was called Beneros. The city’s citizens appealed to Satra for assistance against its enemies, which they obliged. When the Empire defeated the Eliran cities in battle and annexed their territories, it characteristically allowed the local people to maintain their customs and traditional political systems. Unfortunately, cruel tyrants ruled in several cities. To promote stability the Satri supported them with warriors and payments. In other cities, excessive taxation and repression exploded into revolt. Beneros led the other cities in revolt. The Eliran Revolt lasted four years, with Diakai cities sending military support. Holmeron provided the lion’s share of that support. Because of the recent war in Diakas, they only sent twenty ships to aid the Elirans.   Engagement: After several large battles and the Holmerians pulling back their forces to protect their interests elsewhere, the Satri gradually defeated the Elirans. City after city burnt in revenge for the revolt. Many thousands were killed and thousands more were sold into slavery. Others still were deported to far-flung corners of the empire to live out their days in exile. Beneros was completely destroyed.   Result: The revolt ended with the Satri Empire regaining control of the troubled province.   Outcome: With the rebels defeated, the Empire garrisoned more men and instituted tighter control.   Aftermath: The Eliran Revolt led to the Battle of Avestion and Axsayarad’s invasion of Diakas. Holmerian meddling ultimately ended in the complete destruction of their city.
