Rushlight Caverns
The Rushlight Caverns, a network of caves beneath the Dragon's Teeth Mountains on Ormr's southern coast is home to the Kobolds. The caverns are a network of twisty passages with many small side-chambers.
Located near the entrance, the Chambers of Welcome is the entrance to the caverns, opening to the south to the Drakkon Sea. The chambers contain docks for both ships and small airships and buildings to accommodate the flow of goods in and out of the caverns. Magical lights in the cliffs above the massive entrance are known as the Candles, guiding inbound vessels safely into the cave mouth. The Candlewick Inn provides residence and sustenance for incoming travelers.
Carts and wagons, pulled by large tame lizards, transport goods from the docks to the Marketstalls to the north. Large, winding tunnels wend their way through the market area, with colourful, open-air, stalls lining the walls and shopkeepers living in homes carved into the stone behind.
Northwest of the Marketstalls is the Warrens, a number of smaller caverns connected by more winding stone tunnels, with houses built in the stone in the caverns.
To the northeast is the Chamber of Might, home of the current Kobold High Chieftain, garrison, and court. The High Chieftain is a position awarded to the strongest contender. Usually, the rest of the kobolds fall in line when a new Chieftain steps up, and it's rare for open dissension; the kobold way is to accept the new ruler with subservience while muttering angry threats in private. Occasionally, a coup is staged or an assassination is carried out.
Connected to both the Chamber of Might and Warrens by further tunnels, the Rushlight Gardens is a massive indoor garden, lush with flowers and every kind of plant. Kobold druids use magic to alter the weather and conditions in the cave, creating ideal conditions. The denizens of the garden are giant bees, who keep the flowers pollinated and produce wax in hives contained in a large side-chamber. Beekeepers carefully harvest the wax and honey from the hives, sending it on more carts through a tunnel to the Waxworks, where the kobolds produce their major export, beeswax candles, sending the finished products along another path back to the Marketstalls.
