The Sand Fields

Extending from the sudden drop-off at the southern and eastern ends of the Icepeaks, the Sand Fields stretch to the southern edge of the continent, and as far east as anyone has ever successfully ventured. Shifting hills of sand overlooked by consistently clear skies and scorching sun, unbroken by oases or landmarks, the fields have never in recorded history been successfully explored or traversed, though an occasional merchant of odd dialect and garment appears in eastern markets, claiming to be from "east" and selling exotic items from unknown sources.
It should be noted that several miles past the mapped border of the Sand Fields (the actual border alters randomly with the winds shifting the enormous sand dunes miles in weeks or even days) a dead-magic zone begins. All ships who have attempted to sail around the southern or northern coasts of the continent to pass the Sand Fields have either had to turn back when they run out of water rations or risk continuing on. Those crews who make the latter choice have never been heard from again, either starving or running afoul of some other end… or possibly meeting a stranger and more unbelievable fate.
