Neblin

Neblin (both singular and plural), also knowns as keibles, svrifs or mistic gnomes, are the smallest and least powerful form of the Irdakoth. As descendants of the Kothogor, neblin are related to sprigins and goblins.   Neblin, like other Irdakoth, are sensative to the movement of magical energies. They are also pretanaturally skilled at manipulating those energies, and can use them to hide themselves when they wish to avoid being seen.  

Physical Description

Neblin are small of stature, generally standing just over 3 feet in height. Their skin is a pale blue-grey, and their hair is usually white or silver in color. Their eyes range anywhere from a sky blue to a deep forest green. Their facial features tend to vary widely, with proportions that often don't match the norm of other humanoid races. Many have overly large mouths and eyes, an effect which can be both disturbing and stunning, depending on the individual. Others may have extremely small features spread over an otherwise blank expanse of face, or may mix shockingly large eyes with a tiny, pursed mouth and a pert button of a nose.   Neblin rarely accentuate their appearance, and their clothing tends to be simple and drab. They seem generally disdain being noticed.

Society

Neblins are reclusive and mysterious, and have something of a sinister reputation. People tend to treat them courteously, in order to prevent their homes being overrun by rats, or to have their crops become blighted, or their stores turned to ruin. Such fear-based courtesy also drives resentment, and few neblin are truly embraced or accepted by those outside the mistic forests of the Urda.

Racial Traits (12 RP)

Standard Racial Traits

  • Ability Score Racial Traits: Neblin are nimble and observant, but relatively weak and emotionally distant. They gain –2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, and –4 Charisma.
  • Type: Neblin are humanoids with the irda subtype.
  • Size: Neblin are Small creatures and thus gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
  • Speed: Neblin have a base speed of 20 feet.
  • Languages: Neblin begin play speaking Skaanak. Those with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Auren, Cherek, Common, Darsun, Draconic, Lezshe, Terran and Ylvani. See the Languages of Temnia page for more information about these languages.

Defense Racial Traits

  • Defensive Training: Neblin gain a +2 dodge bonus to Armor Class.
  • Mistic Foresight (2 RP): Neblin gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities.
  • Spell Resistance: Neblin have spell resistance (SR) equal to 6 + their class levels.
 

Feat and Skill Racial Traits

  • Mistic Veil: Neblin gain a +2 racial bonus on Stealth checks; this improves to a +4 bonus within the area of mists or clouds.
  • Spellcunning (2 RP): Neblin have a sixth sense that allows them to detect the movement of magical energies. Neblin gain a +2 racial bonus on skill checks to notice the effects of spells and spell-like abilities, such as sense motive checks to notice the effects of magical compulsion or perception checks to notice illusion or polymorph effects. They can also identify a spell being cast using spellcraft even if they cannot see or hear the caster, so long as the casting occurs within 60 feet. This does not allow them to discern who cast the spell, or where it was cast from.
 

Magical Racial Traits

  • Neblin Magic: Neblin add +1 to the DC of any illusion spells they cast. Neblin also gain the following spell-like abilities (caster level equals the neblin’s class levels):
    • Constant—nondetection
    • 1/day—blindness/deafness (DC 12 + Charisma modifier), blur, disguise self
 

Senses Racial Traits

  • Low-Light Vision: Neblin can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
 
Alternate Racial Traits
 
  • Mist Child: Whenever a neblin has concealment or total concealment, the miss chance of attacks against her increases by 5%.
  • Mistic Manipulation: Neblin with this trait can channel the flow of the mists into a spell they case. Once per day, when a neblin applies a metamagic feat to a spell that adds at least 1 level to the spell, they treat its actual level as 1 lower for determining the spell’s final adjusted level. This racial trait replaces mistic foresight.
