Dragonborn

While dragons no longer soar above the lands of Temnia, their legacy still remains.   The dragonborn of Temnia are not descendant from dragons, but rather were created by the Dragons Gods of the Second Age. The dragonborn people were given life and sentience through powerful magics that touched upon the divine. The Dragon Gods who created the dragon born were not truly divine creatures, merely very powerful mortals. Some religious scholars believe that this why the Dragonborn people have endured such a trying history in the modern age. Others cite their mortal creation as the reason that there is such a wide variety of Dragonborn sub-species, even among individual dragonborn races.   There are some few physical characteristics similar to all dragonborn:
  • All dragonborn are warm blooded mammals, even those that are outwardly reminiscent of lizards, amphibians, or insects.
  • All dragonborn have four digits on each limb, three-fingered hands with opposable thumbs. Some have opposable digits on their feet as well, but four in total regardless.
  • All dragonborn are born from eggs, even those that are outwardly reminiscent of mammals.
  • All dragonborn have tails, though some species have tails much smaller (relative to their body size) than others.
There seven distinct dragonborn races:   Akalish: Similar in appearance to frogs or toads, Akalish are well suited to life near bodies of fresh water. They have long-since abandoned their dragonborn kin, and are distrustful of any outsiders, regardless of their heritage.
Burtosh: Prideful beyond reason, these feline humanoids believe themselves to be the greatest of the dragonborn races.
Kutsu: Kustu a the smallest of the dragonborn races, featuring an insectile appearance.
Hswani: The lost dragonborn race, the Hswani have a simian appearance, and latent psionic talent.
Szaakri: Most similar in appearance to dragons, the Szaakri had once been the leaders of the dragonborn people.
Thananim: The largest of the dragonborn races, the reptilian thananim are a laconic and idle people.
Tulosh: The most devious and clever of the dragonborn races, these canine humanoids are equally capable of winning by strength of arms or keenness of wits.
