The Workers of Varied Trades
Adaline waited impatiently in the alleyway across from the butcher shop. Her contact was usually late, but it always bugged her nonetheless. A Hill-Dwarf man walked up, dressed as a member of the local guard, and quietly discussed things with the young rogue. He informed her of recent patrol changes, which shops were being looked at closer, easier pickings, etc., before she handed him a small purse of coin and let him be on his way. If it wasn't for the Workers, the two never would have met. Now, she has the keys into the backdoor of a jeweler's shop that she got from a guard. Adaline smiles to herself, and wanders off into the street...
Organized crime is a problem in The Culvanian Territories, and that problem is made worse by The Workers of Varied Trades. A loosely banded but organized group of criminals, charlatans, and specialists, The Workers are a syndicate which helps criminals acquire goods and fence them at the cost of a portion of their earnings. They are spread out primarily among towns and cities located in The Linemell Empire and Alaman, but they have been known to dispatch thugs and adventurers to the Tel'Ivess Jungles as well.
They operate by having a number representatives in one place that most criminals who know the lingo can reach out to. After an agreement has been made, those representatives can reach out to their contacts, informants, and hirelings to help the criminals depending on what the agreement is. Once the job is done, the representatives and contacts get their cuts and business either continues or is cut off.
Structure
The Workers of Varied Trades have a series of representatives that handle each region and communicate by either spell or hawk. There is no true leader in the organization, but in instances where groups are in jepordy of being found out, members have taken charge to call in favors, hire assistance, etc. to prevent the dissolution of involvement in towns, or exposure of the rest of the organization at least.
Culture
The Workers value those who can share profits; if you can get the job done and get money to the organization, then you are valued among the organization. Store owners who hoard money, valuables, and other possessions are seen only as targets. As they are an business that deals in illegal activities, they also despise law-abiding guards, adventurers, and citizens who get their associates caught.
