Corycus

Written by Nestor Alren
Corycus is the seat of House Hyggion, the governing family of The Southlands, and one of the southernmost cities in Nemea, second only to World's End. It stands guard over the Straight of Corycus, where The Niashard Sea, as the Sea of Sorrows, intermingles with the Depths of Scarsgate. The Straight is the only aquatic access to the Niashard Sea from south of Nemea.

Demographics

The Corycusians follow the example set by their liege, Zagreus Hyggion, and strictly follow the Purification and Separation Laws set by The Divine Duality. Citizens keep their distance from the Nobles, and the skuli are considered the basest creatures, barely human at all. Skuli and Nobles by far outnumber the Citizens in Corycus, though many skuli are never seen in public, as they remain chained and live in cells or animal pens, and perform the meanest and dirtiest of labors.

Government

While under the monarchy of Nemea, Corycus is the seat of the province of the Southlands, and its governing family, House Hyggion. The current Governor is Zagreus, Patriarch of House Hyggion. He largely relies upon his steward, Rydan skuli, to manage the day-to-day governing of the Province, who in turn uses other skuli to perform the necessary work in the major cities, including Corycus. All this is done in Zagreus Hyggion's name.

Defences

As an outpost of sorts for the Kingdom of Nemea, Corycus is well-defended. It begins immediately at the water's edge, with a surrounding fortress wall that appears to be made from smooth, black volcanic rock.

Industry & Trade

The largest industry in Corycus is fire-smithing. The fire-smiths of Corycus are known for their works in everything from blades to blown glass. Though, they are a rather warlike people, so the blades are more popular, locally. Most glass items are exported, and they have found quite a market in the northern Province of Beleterra. Sand and metals are other major exports for Corycus.   The surrounding land is rather dry and hot, not particularly suitable to agriculture, so they are dependent upon imports for their grains, vegetables, and meats.
