Phil McKraken? Report

General Summary

In a nautical battle non-pareil, our heroes were proven in the thick of the smoke, and splashing water, and writhing tentacular appendages that seemed to have a mind of their own. Grabbing each of our heroes at different points in the combat, they each were flung through the air with such strength that Forge managed to fire an arrow with such uncanny imprecision that it actually seemed to pain the titanic kraken, slightly, in sympathetic brotherhood. Forge's crossbow took a permanent dive, the bolt went very, very wide, and Forge learned why these masses of muscle and skin used their lungs to 'sigh' so often.   Our heroes thought the end was nigh, but as they arced, or fell, or impacted the water, they each had a very lucid, very personal and indubitably disconcerting dream. Getting themselves situated, with salvaged gear from the wrecked boats and salvaged people who needed to continue surviving, they set off. In all, maybe 18, or perhaps 20, survivors banded together on makeshift rafts and, or, and sometimes in ships' boats that had somehow been set free from their stowage. Every one of the survivors made it to a small cove gracing a small island that a full sized ship would have torn the bottom out of on jagged rocks and the volcanic remnants of a once impressive volcano, now blown to pieces by the awesome forces of nature that volcanoes are, and forming an archipelago somewhere in the depths of time.   The first couple of days, they made camp and inventoried their sparse resources. Tror, almost as at home in the tropical forest as he would be farther to the north in his temperate home, found something interesting in his travels; a ziggurat, which he and the rest of our heroes discovered was guarded by indigenous tribesmen and women. Atop it they were allowed to ascend, up the narrow stair, to meet the entity above...a giant snake floating above the top steppe of the pyramid comfortably. Asking them to leave this place be, the characters acquiesced after a little mafia-style protection racket was set up in a masterful and surprisingly un-evil way. Returning to the camp, they contemplated what their next move should be.
