Letter from Póp Cávna III to the Qaghan

A Pastúral Exhortation of the Supreme Pontaif, to the Gun of Noom, Great King in the East:

The Good God, Diagrá, King of Heaven, ever-present, all-knowing and benevolent Creator of the Land of the Living, and Father of the Aingeals, having revealed Himself and his Wisdom to our Forefathers, the Saintly Masters, and having established His Community of the Faithful in this World, saw fit to entrust Saint Dáire His Vicar in this World, chosen by the Good God to be pastúral leader of His People, and charged him with the care and comfort of the souls of the Faithful, and granted to him authority over all His People, that he should watchfully pay heed to their salvation, and that, through him his successors should be Guardians of the salvation of the souls of all people. Wherefore we, though unworthy, having become, by the Grace of the Good God, successor to Saint Dáire, turn our keen attention to the East, and to your salvation, and to the salvation of your people, in the hope, with the help of the Grace of the Good God, of leading you from your error to the Way of Truth.

We are not without cause to express, in strong terms, our dismay that you, as we have heard, have with your armies invaded many countries that rightfully belong within the Community of the Consecrated, which are the People of the Good God, laying waste to them, and, with unabated fury, you continue to bring desolation to all whom you confront, sparing neither sex nor age, in stark violation of the natural ties of men.

We, therefore, desiring that all men should live in peace, united in the Glory of the Good God and the promise of Eternal Life in the Land of the Living, do admonish, beg and earnestly beseech you and your people to desist entirely, now and for all time, from your assaults and your persecutions of the Community of the Faithful, and do demand that you conciliate by fitting penance the wrath of Devine Justice, which you have without doubt seriously aroused by your grievous offenses and provocations.

Do not be emboldened by your victories, for they are fleeting. We know the Good God will often refrain for the moment, from chastising the proud in this World, that they might observe their error and humble themselves of their own accord, yet failing that, he may not only punish their wickedness in this World, but may also take greater vengeance in the World to come.

On this account we see fit to send to you, bearing this letter, our beloved brothers, remarkable for their religious zeal, well favored in their virtue, and blessed with a deep understanding of Saintly Scripture. Receive them kindly and honor them out of reverence for the Good God, as if receiving us in their persons, and deal fairly and honestly with them in all matters on which they shall speak on our behalf. When you have had profitable discussion with them concerning the affairs treated herein, especially as concerns Peace in this World, make fully known to us, through them, what moved you to destroy other nations, and what you intend henceforth, furnishing them with safe-conduct, and other necessities, on both their outward and return journey, so that they might safely make their way back into our presence at a time of their choosing. Your Servant in the Peace and Glory of the King of Heaven
