Electrum

Electrum is one of the five globally accepted currency types. It is made from a naturally occurring silver-gold alloy, and is worth 1/2 of a Gold Piece. They are crafted in the shape of an oval with two straight edges with a hole in the center, placed slightly off-center.


What electrum lacks in monetary value, it makes up for in its value to the Magic Item Trade, as electrum is the only currency that can legally be used to purchase magic items. Because of this, electrum is a tightly regulated currency, with most governments mandating lengthy permitting processes to even exchange other forms of currency for electrum. Many black markets throughout Tellandria have their roots in finding ways to circumvent the restrictions on electrum trade.
