Alternative Initiative
The following rules are an optional initiative system to help with the problems posed by our large player base:
Passive Initiative:
All NPCs and Monsters encountered will have a "passive initiative" of 10 + Dexterity Modifier. In combat, most enemies will use their passive initiative score, with high level monsters and minions going on different initiative orders.
High Level Baddies:
Enemies who pose a significant risk to the party will go on higher initiative counts of 20 or 25.
Minions:
In encounters where an enemy is accompanied by a group of minions, the minions will go on initiative count 1.
Groups of 1-3 Players:
Players will not roll initiative. Instead, the players will go in the order that they are sitting at the table (or an order determined by the players). The enemies will then go after all the players have taken their turn.
Groups of 4-6 Players:
Players will roll initiative, and enemies will be spaced out so that the enemies go after about half of the players have had their turn.
Groups of 7+ Players:
Players will go in an order that they determine beforehand. Monsters will use passive initiative.
