The Great Maelstrom

The Northern continent of the world of Teana is separated from the two Southern continents by a large expanse of ocean called the Dragon Sea, at the centre of which is a massive vortex, commonly referred to as the Eye of the World. This towering maelstrom of spinning wind is permanently blanketed in howling storms, and crackles with strange, potent energies. The impact of the Eye on weather and ocean currents means that no reliable travel between the Northern and Southern continents is possible. Those few who have through misfortune founds themselves in a position to see the maelstrom from a distance, and then been lucky enough to survive, claim to have seen the huge winged shapes of dragons flitting through the raging twisting walls of wind making up the Eye.
