Diplomatic action
We arrived at Tokyo Airport a little after half past 6, Thursday evening. Emperor Alihito had a full diplomatic welcome prepared for me at the tarmac. The Imperial Band played God Save the Queen as I came down the airstairs. That was a first. It makes me a little uncomfortable. It makes me think they are playing it about me and I start to panic. Drummond actually had to give me my anti-anxiety meds once we got into the car.
The room that has been prepared for me at the Imperial Palace is lovely.
Tomorrow I am traveling with Empress Keiko to the tsunami affected areas. She will be giving me a tour of the secured portions of the nuclear power plant and a site that was used as a makeshift hospital triage site during the worst days after the tsunami.
The Games open on Monday. I plan to visit the athlete's village on Sunday, spending some time with Team GB.
I'm actually very pleased to be here to represent the United Kingdom and my Gran.
