What a day. It was an amazing and classic Christmas. It felt right, like all the best parts of our family traditions gathered together. Only on Christmas Eve do we all feel less like an institution and more like a family.
As usual, the mountains of gifts were impossing and led to squeals and excitement. I think the most special thing this year was a beautiful silver box from Gran. It's footed and the inside is lined with purple velvet. The inside and outside of the lid are beautifully inscribed. Outside is a large, stylized 'S' and and olive branch around it. Inside Gran had a much more personal message inscribed.
"Sebastian, you must chart your own path to the Throne. Be a good king, be kind, be merciful, be wise, be true. You have my love always. Gran. VIIR." It felt a little emotionally heavy. I was worried something was wrong. She says all is well. I hope she's right.
