Dos - Pigs

Small, chunky powerhouses

Creatures resembling original pigs, dos-pigs have barrel-like bodies and pig-like snouts that are slightly more extended. Lacking entirely a mouth, these pigs feed through the suction of their trunks, feeding on smaller insects and sometimes even scorpions. Dos-pigs are known to eat, during times of distress or lack of food, berries as well.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Similar to its cousin sus domesticus (Pigs), a dos-pig has four legs and its body is rotund. In height, the largest dos-pigs have been recorded to stand around 80cm while in length, they span a little over a meter. They have a lengthy face with two beady, small eyes and pig-like ears. Greatest differing feature to usual pigs is their outer lack of a mouth and their elongated trunk. However, as is known by most who farm dos-pigs, they do have a weak jaw located inside of their trunk. This way, when a dos-pig eats something possibly hostile or dangerous, it still has a way to bite and kill its prey.

Ecology and Habitats

Dos-pigs most often trek through arid wastes, digging out scorpions with their trunks to dine on. As long as the environment itself does not offer dangers to the dos-pig, they might as well migrate to dense forests. These dos-pigs, considered to be a subspecies, dine on berries in addidtion to insects.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Dos-pigs are widely domesticated and used mainly as a food source. In addition to this, some inventive peasants have begun using dos-pigs to sniff out infestations of harmful insects such as locusts. Due to how Dos-pigs largely ignore grain and such, some domesticated dos-pigs are kept free on large fields where they feed on insects and still leave the grain intact.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dos-pigs have an excellent sense of smell (And what scholars have extended to be taste, since the strange location of their mouth) and they can track their ideal food with ease.
