Covenant of Fiery Light

The Covenant is a monotheistic religion centered around the Silent Desert. The religion has a heavy dwarf presence as they are the only religion that can give dwarves magical powers. The Covenant of Fiery Light is a theocratic government, ruling over both secular and religious affairs.

Structure

The higher in position of the priesthood you are the more authority you have, as you are closer to the Light. Orders from higher ups are rarely questioned. The Keeper of Light is the highest position of the Covenant. Only the Keeper can commune with the flame to receive insight on what direction the Covenant should go.

Public Agenda

Purge the land of evil and corruption and allow goodness burn in our hearts.

Religion

Within the Covenant proper no other religions are allowed. However in other countries the Fiery Light will coexist.

Divine Origins

The Covenant was founded by the dwarf Silverblade in the year 291. Silverblade and his band of eleven followers were retreating from a failed battle into the Silent Desert. Deep within the sand dunes, there they found a piece of heaven that had fallen to Terra. The shard of heaven radiated with an unearthly light and pearlescent flames danced around it. All was not well, a demon prince was attempting to corrupt this shard of heaven. Silverblade and the band of warriors defeated this demon prince at a great cost. The shard of heaven saw their selfless act and rewarded them.   The band named the shard of heaven The Holy Light, as the flames would consume any who were found unworthy. Silverblade, being of pure heart and a pious soul, was able to commune with the heavens through and gain a deep understanding of the universe. A covenant with the Holy Light was formed. Now all who swear to uphold the virtues of the Light and help stop the spread of evil in Terra will be granted power to accomplish this.

Tenets of Faith

The faithful of the Fiery Light must uphold the seven virtues and shun the seven sins.

Ethics

The Covenant emphasizes self-sacrifice to help emulate the original founders of the religion.

Worship

Followers of the Covenant are asked to attend worship services once per week. Embers will lose their magical connection to the Covenant if they go for longer than a month without worship. Worship must be done at a Forge, the name of the temples for the Covenant of Fiery Light. Each Forge has a piece of The Holy Light, brought from the capital of Silverforge where the shard of heaven originally fell.

Granted Divine Powers

All priests are required to make a covenant, to be bonded, to the Fiery Light. It's possible to bonded to the Light without being a priest and such people are referred to as Embers. The Covenant of Bonding requires the Ember to give up the use of blood stones and magical familiars. The more virtuous an Ember is the more powerful of spells they can cast, though only proper priests can gain access to the most powerful spells. An Ember bonded to the Covenant may use the Light skill to cast spells.
