Sixteen years after Ainsley’s birth, Calder came into the world during the height of summer. His arrival should have been a celebration, but it came at a time of tension between Ráðúlfr and Fiadh.
  Fiadh, yearning to stand beside Ráðúlfr as his equal and fearing her mortality, wanted to be turned. Ráðúlfr, haunted by the dangers of transformation and the risk of losing her, refused. This divide cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion, leaving both to wrestle with love, fear, and stubbornness.
  Despite the strain, Calder’s birth brought a fragile sense of hope, as both parents clung to the bond that had carried them through countless storms.
