Umboros (Um-BOH-ros)
Umboros Guardian of the Underworld
Umboros is the solemn and introspective Titan of the Underworld, embodying the mysteries, tranquility, and hidden depths of the earth. He represents the cycle of life and death, honoring every soul regardless of the deeds that defined them in life. He maintains the balance between life and death with a deep and patient wisdom, believing in the intrinsic worth of each soul. Umboros is also known as the keeper of the Ethereal Plane and the three realms of the afterlife: Elysium, Purgatory, and, with the rise of corruption, the Nine Hells.
Divine Domains
- Death and the Afterlife: Governing the passage of souls from the mortal realm to the afterlife, Umboros maintains the natural cycle and protects the sanctity of the dead.
- The Ethereal Plane: As the creator of the Ethereal Plane, Umboros oversees the balance of life and death, offering tranquility to wandering souls and ensuring the righteous journey of reincarnation.

Artifacts
- The Shroud of Silence: A dark, semi-transparent cloak that shrouds Umboros, woven from shadows and whispers of the departed. This artifact is said to render him invisible to all but those he chooses to reveal himself to. It also grants him the ability to silence those who disturb the sanctity of death, binding their voices in a quiet void. The Shroud is a symbol of his domain over secrets, silence, and the hidden paths of the dead.
- The Ethereal Lantern: A ghostly lantern Umboros crafted to guide souls through the Ethereal Plane. The Lantern’s light cannot be seen by the living, yet it glows warmly for departed souls, easing their journey toward Purgatory, Elysium, or the Nine Hells. Within the lantern lies an eternal flame, symbolizing the purity of each soul and their innate potential for redemption.
- The Ebon Key: Known to open the passage between the worlds of the living and the dead, the Ebon Key is safeguarded by Umboros, who alone determines when it is used. It allows the summoning of departed souls or grants access to Purgatory in times of great need. Legends say the Ebon Key can lock away great evils and secrets too perilous for mortal knowledge, keeping them within the Ethereal Plane for eternity.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
- The Veil of Midnight: Representing the mysterious beauty of the afterlife, the Veil of Midnight is depicted as a faint, starry shroud or curtain dividing life and death. Followers believe it acts as a protective barrier, allowing the soul’s safe passage and guarding it from corrupted spirits.

It is often inscribed on grave markers, temple doors, and even the robes of his priests. The Crescent represents the nighttime's calm, while the Key signifies Umboros’s control over the ethereal paths of the dead.
- The Wheel of Cycles: A circle divided into three parts, each representing Elysium, Purgatory, and the Nine Hells. Followers wear it as a pendant to remind them of life’s cycle and the eventual journey to the afterlife. It reflects the interconnectedness of all realms under Umboros’s watch.

Mental characteristics
Personal history
Initially, Umboros created the Ethereal Plane to look after the souls of the dead. This realm was a place where all souls could find solace and be recycled back into the living world. Umboros, bound to his duty, often made deals and favors with souls, granting them gifts in return for their adherence to his laws.
However, as the other gods and titans began shaping the material world and influencing the mortals, corruption and evil began to manifest in the souls of the deceased. Umboros, witnessing this change, realized the need for a more complex system to ensure that only the worthy souls would find peace and happiness.
Elysium: From his heart, Umboros created Elysium, a place of peace and tranquility for virtuous souls. Elysium is a realm of eternal rest and joy, where worthy souls find solace and are rewarded for their good deeds.
Purgatory: From his mind, Umboros formed Purgatory, a place for souls to atone for their wrongdoings. Purgatory is a realm of reflection and penance, where souls can learn and grow before moving on to their final destinations.
This change ensured that the balance between good and evil was maintained, and that only those deserving of happiness or reincarnation would receive it.
Umboros' Tragic Love and the Birth of Asmodeus
In the early days of the world, Umboros, the solemn and enigmatic Titan of the Underworld, devoted himself to overseeing the souls of the dead. He cherished every soul, making deals and granting favors to those who followed his laws, ensuring a balance between life and death. However, this balance was disrupted by a cunning and ambitious mortal soul named Lysara. Lysara was a mortal whose intelligence and beauty were matched only by her insatiable thirst for power. Desiring the immense power of Umboros, she devised a plan to trick the Titan and claim his strength for herself. Using her charm and guile, Lysara presented herself as a soul in need of guidance and compassion. Her deceitful nature was masked by a facade of vulnerability and innocence. Umboros, moved by her plight, began to favor Lysara, granting her powers and abilities beyond those of a typical mortal soul. Over time, Umboros fell in love with Lysara, entranced by her seeming purity and devotion. The union between Umboros and Lysara was one of passion and intensity, and from their union, a child was conceived before her deceit was discovered. The child born from this union was Asmodeus, a being unlike any other. Asmodeus inherited the power and essence of his father, Umboros, but was also tainted by the deceit and ambition of his mother, Lysara. Born of his father's rage and his mother's deceit, Asmodeus embodied the darkest aspects of both his parents. Asmodeus grew rapidly in power and influence, quickly revealing his true nature as a patron of oppression and power. He became the first devil and the ruler of all devilkind, creating the Nine Hells, a realm of unyielding tyranny and ceaseless warfare. The Nine Hells became the final destination for malevolent souls, where they faced eternal torment and punishment under Asmodeus' rule.
