Lucian Dain

Captain Lucian Rhys Dain (a.k.a. The Silver Reaver)

Charming, unpredictable, and dangerously intelligent, Lucian is a man of contradictions. To some, he is a gallant rogue, liberating ships from their burdens of gold and oppression. To others, he is a ruthless privateer, leaving naught but wreckage and ruin in his wake. He thrives on the thrill of the hunt, treating the sea as his endless battlefield, and he does not suffer fools or betrayers lightly. His word is law on his ship, yet he inspires loyalty not through fear, but through unshakable charisma and an uncanny ability to turn impossible odds in his favor.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lucian is a striking figure, his chiseled features framed by tousled waves of dark hair that catch the wind like the black sails of his ship. His storm-gray eyes gleam with the sharp wit of a man who is always one step ahead. He wears a long coat lined with silver embroidery, its edges tattered from years at sea, and a tricorn hat adorned with a raven’s feather—a reminder of his first kill. He moves like a duelist, every step measured and every action precise, a man who thrives in the dance between life and death.

Personal history

Lucian Rhys Dain was born in Fyrden 22, 472 HE, in the kingdom of Tharnis, the illegitimate son of Duke Severian Valcrest and a court musician named Elira Dain. His father never acknowledged him publicly, but neither did he cast him aside completely. Instead, Lucian was raised on the edges of nobility, educated in swordplay, strategy, and etiquette, but always reminded that he would never truly belong. His father gave him only a name—nothing else.   His mother, Elira, was a free-spirited woman with the soul of a wanderer, teaching him songs of the sea and tales of lost treasures. She raised him in the shadows of his father’s estate, ensuring he learned both the ways of the court and the ways of the common folk. But when Lucian was 13, Elira fell ill and died, leaving him at the mercy of his father’s house. The Duke, seeing no further use for a bastard son, sent him away to the Tharnian Navy, hoping the sea would either make or break him.

Naval Years: Chains of Duty, Whispers of Rebellion

For seven years, Lucian served as an officer in the Tharnian Navy, rising through the ranks despite the scorn of his noble peers. He proved himself a skilled strategist and an even better duelist, earning the grudging respect of his superiors. Yet, he despised the rigid structure, the corruption, and the blind obedience the navy demanded.   At age 20, his life changed forever. His ship, The Gilded Spear, was ordered to hunt down a pirate fleet in the Mesowet Ocean. But it was a trap. Someone within the navy had sold them out. The battle was a massacre—his admiral, Alistair Wren, left him and his surviving crew to die in the wreckage, unwilling to rescue a bastard he considered disposable.

Rebirth as a Pirate: The Revenant Rises

Lucian should have drowned that day. Instead, he clawed his way onto a shattered piece of wreckage, surviving for days on the open sea before he was found by a ship of outlaws—The Revenant. The crew, a mix of escaped slaves, deserters, and those abandoned by the world, took him in. At first, they saw him as nothing more than another lost soul, but Lucian challenged their captain to a duel for leadership—and won.   At 21, he became Captain Lucian Dain. At 23, he stole a Tharnian warship and reforged The Revenant into a nightmare on the waves. By 25, his legend had spread across Tanaria, and both the navy and rival pirates sought his head.   Now, at 30, he is one of the most infamous pirates to sail the seas—both feared and admired, a man caught between vengeance, freedom, and the ghosts of his past.

Philosophy & Legacy: Between Vengeance and Freedom

Lucian fights not just for gold, but for those the world has cast aside. He takes in the lost, the betrayed, the broken, and gives them a purpose. His ship is his family, his crew the only loyalty he acknowledges. Yet beneath the confidence and charm, there is still a man who carries the weight of the past—a man who wonders whether he is truly free or simply sailing away from the chains of his birth.   And deep down, he knows one thing: One day, he will return to Tharnis—not as a bastard, but as a storm.

Sexuality

Lucian Dain is pansexual, drawn to charm, intelligence, and the fire in a person’s soul rather than their gender. He thrives on passionate affairs, indulging in fleeting romances across the seas, but few have ever truly held his heart. Love, for a pirate, is dangerous—trust even more so. While he enjoys the thrill of conquest, both in battle and in romance, anyone who hopes to keep him must match his fire and be willing to sail into the storm beside him.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Lucian Dain’s driving force is freedom—not just for himself, but for those who have been cast aside by the world. Born a bastard, betrayed by the navy, and left for dead, he refuses to let anyone dictate his fate. Every coin he takes, every ship he sinks, every legend whispered about him is a defiance against the chains that once bound him.   But beneath the thrill of piracy, there is a deeper, more dangerous hunger: vengeance. He has never forgotten the betrayal that nearly killed him, nor the corrupt system that discarded him. Though he sails under the black flag, his war is not just against the navy—it is against the very idea that power belongs only to those born into it.   Yet, for all his fire, Lucian is no fool. He knows that true freedom comes at a cost, and the deeper he sails into legend, the harder it becomes to tell whether he is still the man steering his fate… or just another myth lost to the sea.

Social

Speech

Lucian Dain’s voice is a weapon as sharp as his cutlass—smooth when he wants it to be, biting when needed, and always carrying an air of effortless confidence. He speaks like a man who knows the world bends to his will, a mix of refined nobility and rogueish charm.
  • Accent:
    • A blend of aristocratic enunciation and sailor’s grit.
    • His noble upbringing gives him a refined cadence, but years at sea have sanded away the polish.
    • His voice is measured, commanding, and edged with mischief.
  •
  • Tone:
    • Deep and smooth, with a low, deliberate drawl when amused.
    • Can turn sharp and cutting when serious.
    • Always carries a hint of amusement, like he’s in on a joke no one else knows.
  •
  • Choice of Words:
    • Speaks in precise, calculated phrases, rarely wasting words.
    • Laces his speech with dry wit, cutting sarcasm, or unsettling honesty.
    • Equally comfortable charming a noble or threatening a rival.
  •
  • Curses & Expletives:
    • Rarely vulgar for the sake of it—he prefers clever insults over crude ones.
    • When angered, he favors low, dangerous threats over shouting.
    • If he does curse, it’s often something sharp and simple:
      • “By the abyss, you’re a fool.”
      • “Bleeding hells, I don’t have time for this.”
      • “You’ve got one chance to rethink that, love.”
  •
  • Lies & Honesty:
    • A master liar, but only when necessary.
    • Prefers half-truths and misdirection over outright falsehoods.
    • When he does tell the truth, it’s often the kind that cuts deep and leaves a scar.
  •
  • Laughter:
    • Rare, but when it happens, it’s genuine.
    • A low, rich chuckle when amused.
    • A sharp bark of laughter when genuinely surprised.
    • Smirks more than he smiles, and when he does smile, it usually means trouble.
Lucian speaks like a man who has nothing to prove—but everything to win.

Wealth & Financial state

Lucian Dain is rich beyond measure—but never for long. Gold flows through his fingers like water, spent as quickly as it is stolen. His wealth isn’t hoarded in vaults or buried on some forgotten island; it fuels his freedom, his crew, and his legend.
  • Plunder & Spoils – His fortune comes from raiding merchant vessels, smuggling contraband, and looting enemy ships. He targets Tharnian supply lines, not just for profit, but to weaken the kingdom that cast him aside.
  • No Permanent Holdings – Unlike some pirate lords, he doesn’t rule from a hidden island stronghold. His wealth is in his ship, his reputation, and his ability to disappear.
  • A Pirate’s Spending Habits – He lives fast, spends hard, and leaves nothing to chance. His coin funds repairs, bribes, new weapons, and lavish celebrations when in port. He pays his crew generously—loyalty is earned, not expected.
  • Hidden Stashes – While he doesn’t hoard gold, he isn’t reckless. He has secret caches buried across Tanaria, known only to him and a few trusted crewmates, ensuring he always has an escape plan.
  • Bounties & Wagers – There are bounties on his head in multiple kingdoms, making him a walking fortune—dead or alive. He’s also known to make high-stakes wagers, sometimes betting ships, relics, or even his own freedom on a roll of the dice.
Lucian may be wealthy, but to him, gold is only as valuable as the power and freedom it grants him.
The sea doesn’t care for kings or crowns. It takes what it wants, and so do I.

Plot ideas

1. The Ghost Admiral’s Curse

An old Tharnian warship, long thought lost to the depths, has been spotted drifting near the Stormveil Sea. The ship, The Dreadwake, belonged to the infamous Admiral Mordain—a tyrant who terrorized the seas before vanishing in a storm with all hands. Now, it sails again, its ghostly crew slaughtering any who cross its path. Some say Mordain seeks revenge against the living. Others whisper that his soul is bound to the treasure he hoarded in life, and whoever claims it can command his fleet of spectral ships. Hook: Lucian and his crew must decide whether to hunt this myth, plunder its legendary vault, or break the curse before it devours the seas.

2. The King’s Bastard and the Lost Heir

A noblewoman of Tharnis seeks passage aboard The Revenant, claiming she has information that could shake the kingdom to its core. She speaks of a secret heir—a child hidden away for years, born of a scandalous affair between the king and a commoner. If true, the child would have a rightful claim to the throne… and could be the key to toppling the corrupt monarchy. Hook: The woman insists Lucian has a part to play in this, hinting that his own past is more entwined in Tharnian politics than he ever wanted. But can he trust her? And does he even want to get involved?

3. The Tides of Blood

Pirate factions across the seas are being hunted down and executed by a shadowy force. Ships disappear without a trace, crews found days later, their bodies drained of blood. The only survivors speak of The Crimson Maw, a cult that worships something beneath the waves—something old, something hungry. Now, a strange woman with webbed fingers and deep-sea eyes warns Lucian that he is next. Hook: Does he fight, flee, or find out what the cult truly serves? And what will it take to stop it?

4. A Deal with the Sea Witch

The Sea Witch Selene returns with a demand: Lucian must repay the debt he owes her. Whether he remembers the deal or not, she holds something over him—perhaps his life, a fragment of his soul, or a dark secret. She demands a task: retrieve a relic from the Abyssal Vault, a shipwreck said to be swallowed by the sea itself. Hook: If he refuses, the sea may turn against him. But what is Selene really after, and is this a debt that can ever truly be repaid?

5. The Revenant’s Betrayal

Someone aboard The Revenant is a traitor. One of his own crew has been feeding information to a dangerous enemy—perhaps the navy, a rival pirate, or a foreign power. The betrayal comes to light when Lucian’s ship is ambushed in a narrow strait, forcing him to fight his way free. Hook: The traitor is still among them, and worse, they may not be working alone. Can Lucian root them out before his entire crew turns against him?
