Career

Qualifications

A cleric devoted to Nyxara and the Dreamweaver Domain does not simply receive divine magic like those of more traditional faiths. Their path is one of study, discipline, and attunement to the dreamscape, requiring both spiritual and intellectual growth. The following are the key educational and experiential requirements needed to become a fully recognized cleric of the Dreamweaver Order.
  1. Initiation into the Dreamweaver Order
A prospective cleric must first be recognized as a Dreamweaver Initiate, which requires:
    • A natural sensitivity to dreams, visions, or magical insight.
    • Sponsorship by an existing Moonveil Seer or Nightwoven Scholar who has assessed their potential.
    • A formal dedication ritual where the initiate swears to uphold the Veilbound Doctrine.
Without this initiation, no one can claim to be a true Cleric of Nyxara within the Order.
  2.
  3. Study of Dreamlore & Mysticism (Apprenticeship)
Before wielding divine magic in full, an initiate must undergo rigorous spiritual and intellectual training under the guidance of a mentor. This includes:
    • Dream Interpretation – Learning to decipher visions, omens, and celestial alignments through meditation and study.
    • Theurgical Practices – Understanding Nyxara’s divine magic, including its limitations and proper applications.
    • Oneiromancy (Dream Magic) – Training in the art of entering, shaping, and defending the dreamscape.
    • The Veil & the Ethereal Plane – Studying the nature of reality, the astral realm, and the spirit world.
    • Mental Fortitude – Training in resisting nightmares, psychic attacks, and mind-altering magic.
During this period, the initiate may serve as a scribe, researcher, or assistant within a temple while undergoing practical trials in dreamwork.
  4.
  5. The Trial of the Sleeping Mind (Rite of Passage, Oneiromantic Test)
To prove their readiness, an initiate must complete the Trial of the Sleeping Mind—a sacred test where they must:
    • Induce and navigate a lucid dream without external aid.
    • Find their way through the dreamscape while resisting illusory traps.
    • Receive a vision from Nyxara or her messengers as confirmation of their worth.
Those who fail may try again, but repeated failure suggests they are not meant for this path.
  6.
  7. Ordination as a Dreamweaver Cleric
If the initiate successfully completes their trial, they are formally ordained as a cleric, gaining:
    • The right to bear the sigil of the Dreamweavers.
    • A Dreamwoven Talisman, a symbol of their new station, usually engraved with celestial patterns.
    • Full access to the divine magic of Nyxara.
At this point, they are considered a full-fledged Veilwalker or Nightwoven Scholar, depending on their chosen specialization.
  8.
  9. Specialization & Higher Learning (Optional, 10+ years)
Many clerics continue their studies for decades, refining their skills and seeking deeper enlightenment. Advanced paths include:
    • Starlit Oracle – Masters of prophecy, guiding rulers and scholars.
    • Moonveil Seer – Dreamwalkers who protect and maintain the sanctity of the dreamscape.
    • Nightwoven Scholar – Archivists and lorekeepers dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of magic.
Some eventually become Starlit Oracles, sitting on the high council that advises the Luminary of the Veil.

Other Benefits

Clerics of Nyxara and the Dreamweaver Order gain far more than just financial compensation for their service. Their role as seers, mystics, and dreamwalkers grants them a unique mix of social recognition, influence, and hidden privileges that few others enjoy. While their order does not command political power in the same way as other religious institutions, their knowledge and abilities ensure that they are respected—and sometimes feared—by those who understand the weight of prophecy.   One of the most significant benefits of being a Dreamweaver cleric is the reverence and influence they hold within mystical and scholarly circles. Those trained in the arts of divination and dream magic are regarded as sacred guides, sought out by rulers, scholars, and powerful figures for their wisdom. While they do not command armies or govern nations, their words carry weight, and even kings may hesitate to ignore a prophecy delivered by a recognized Dreamweaver. Their insights into fate and the unknown grant them an almost untouchable status in certain regions, where to harm or ignore a Dreamweaver is considered an act of folly that invites misfortune.   In addition to spiritual influence, Dreamweavers benefit from protection and sanctuary in many places. As servants of Nyxara, they are often granted safe passage between cities, even in lands where war or political tension exists. Many temples offer them shelter without question, and while they are not immune to harm, those who raise a hand against them often face repercussions from both the divine and the mortal world. Some rulers even grant them legal exemptions, recognizing their work as sacred and freeing them from military service, taxation, or feudal obligations. In rare cases, Dreamweavers are permitted to operate outside normal legal systems, acting as neutral arbitrators in disputes that involve fate or prophecy.   Beyond these social and political benefits, Dreamweaver clerics gain something far rarer—access to hidden knowledge. Their order maintains vast libraries of celestial charts, dreamlore, and prophecies that are forbidden to the average scholar. High-ranking members are permitted to study arcane and divine mysteries that even some wizards are denied, delving into the nature of the Veil, the dreamscape, and the divine threads of fate itself. Some of the most sacred sanctuaries hold prophecies so powerful that only the most trusted Dreamweavers may read them, ensuring that dangerous knowledge does not fall into the wrong hands.   Additionally, Dreamweavers are invited to Celestial Conclaves and gatherings where the greatest seers, mystics, and scholars meet to discuss their visions. These events are rare but momentous, shaping the future of the order and, at times, the fate of entire nations. While many Dreamweavers remain solitary, those who reach prominence within the order often become part of an unseen network of influence that spans across Tanaria.   Despite their reserved and enigmatic nature, Dreamweavers hold a level of power, respect, and access to hidden truths that few other religious figures can claim. While their influence may not always be visible, those who understand the weight of their knowledge know that a Dreamweaver’s presence is never meaningless.
